Just found a car I'd like to have, and it is domestic.

Not the oil pan gasket on the Aurora Northstar ... the one on the Deville. Have to pull the engine, etc. Estimated to be if I remember right, 40 hour job. Thank goodness I never had to have that done. Aurora much cheaper. Rear main on it was a bit less than $600. Also, the struts I was referring to were on the Seville ... started to buy a gorgeous 95 when the service mgr warned me about the cost of those. Talked to a rebuilder and he said that his cost was $450 each on the struts or whatever they are called. Radiator was on the Aurora and cost was just less than $600, using a non-GM replacement cause my warranty provider would not pay for GM original. The engine are supposed to be bullet proof, as you said, though. I love the Nstar!

I don't shop the cheapest repair center because I have a warranty with $100 deductible, and they require service shop to stand behind work for 6 mos minimum. Since it costs me the same wherever fixed, I just let the dealer do it. Less worry for me since they have to fight the warranty people when disagreements arise. That's why I recommeded a warranty.

Holy fsck! I've been looking at the Aurora too. Sweet car.

Looked at cars this weekend. I think I'm going with a Buick. Until I inherited one two years ago, I never thought I'd say I prefer Buicks. My LaSabre with leather and the works is such a nice drive. The wife said no to Buick until she got one as a rental car last week. Loved it. So, it appears she's getting a Buick this week.

I do love the Aurora too, either style, classic or new, and they can be had for excellent prices now. More or less, they are Sevilles in other clothing since the engine, size, handling, etc are pretty similar. Fun to drive.

If you do look for an Aurora, make sure you get a '97 -'99. They had worked a lot of the glitches out of those that I now deal with in my '95 Aurora.

BTW - the Northstar engine in the Aurora isn't even similar to the Caddilac Northstar. They have the same name, but that is about where it ends. Also, the Buick Regal is almost identical mechanically to the Aurora, and that can be had with a Supercharger. Honestly, I love my Aurora, though. Won't replace it until it is so far gone its not worth fixing.

Mine's a 98 and if the engines are not similar, you could sure fool me. Side by side there is no difference in appearance except one says Aurora and the other Northstar. The covers are identical. I do know they have different HP output, but not by much. How can you say it is similar to Buick when one is a v6 and the other a V8? Not much simnilarity there, but both are great engines with the supercharging on the V6.

Maybe he meant that the cars are mechanically similar, the engines are not. (GM 3800 Series II or III in Buick and a 'baby' Northstar in the Aurora).

I am holding off any purchase for now, I just got carried away there for a while. More important expenses coming up next year anyway. I have to realocate to Charlottesville VA next year and the house prices there is just insane just like apartment rentals.
Sigh, would be nice to cruise in a Seville though.
It looks pretty badass in 'Get Carter' with Stallone.

My mom has been driving a '93 Seville and seems to average 18-19mpg city, which really isn't that bad for a big car with a V8. The only gripe with this car has been the suspension problems, which were corrected in '95... that has been really the only major thing wrong with that. Went through lots of sets of rotors, etc... Otherwise, the powertrain is solid as hell. The thing is still running beautifully at 130k.

I like the CTS. It's a bit more economical although if you get it with all of the options it's pushing $40k.
