Just formatted, now 2nd hard drive is not accessible

wtf. I just formatted for the first time since I got my new Western Digital 80 GB 7200 RPM at the beginning of the year. I decided to keep my old Maxtor as a second hard drive. After I installed the new hard drive I could access the old Maxtor just fine. So I formatted tonight because Windows was doing some weird crap on me. I think "ok, I've got enough room on the Maxtor to back up everything I want to save". So I save everything I wanted on it. I format my Western Digital, installed Windows. Now I can't get into my 2nd hard drive, the Maxtor. Any time I try to get into it, it brings up a grey box with a red X saying:

D:\ Is Not Acessible
Access is Denied

Why is it doing this? In the device manager it recognizes it as a hard drive and lists the make and model number, and even tells the drive's copacity. But in the My Computer window, when I right click on the 2nd hard drive and go to properties, it doesn't say anything about how much space is on it. In the details on the left it just says "Local Disk" under the drive name instead of "File System: NTFS", etc. like it used to.

What happened? Can somebody help me? Please.

btw, click MyRig in my signature for my system specs. Thanks in advance.

Right-click it and see if you can go to Properties > Security and add your new Administrator account to the list of accounts with access to the drive. You didn't encrypt it, did you?

After I click properties I have three tabs: General, Tools, Hardware. No security. There's no security tab for my other hard drive either. But it has a Sharing and Quota tabs in addition to the ones I mentioned before.

And no, I didn't encrypt it. I don't even know how to do that lol

Ah, I just talked to somebody. I think I see where you're going boomerang. I'll try to unplug the Maxtor and then reinstall Windows.

Yeah, it's after the fact now. Unplugging and reinstalling won't fix the problem.

You need the equivalant of a DOS boot disk that will read NTFS. You need to look and see what files you have there.

Try here. Under Startup File Editors is EditBINI 1.0.

I fixed it. Here's what I did:

I downloaded a progam called GetDataBack. I used it to gather all of the files and information from the drive. Took forever for it to scan, but it finally finished. I seleted what I wanted to copy over to the main HDD and everything was pretty much fine. There were a few pictures that won't display, but I have them backed up on CD anyway. After I copied everything I wanted from the Maxtor to my Western Digital, I formatted the Maxtor from Windows. Now I can get into it just fine.

Thanks for the help.
