You are going to be very disappointed with TDU2.
I was in the beta for it. it makes NFS look like a masterpiece.

I like the new NFS a lot, it's Criterion, it's polished as hell and the online is spectacular.

Having said that, after they screwed the pooch on the Burnout Paradise DLC, I wouldn't buy it on the PC, so I picked it up on the PS3 instead.

This weekend I bought Burnout Paradise because it was on sale on Steam. Big mistake. EA gave me so many headaches. It rejected my EA account over and over again, and I finally had to make a new account.

Once I finally got it working, I couldn't bear to play it more than a few minutes. The gameplay is horrible... it's not a driving game at all, more like GTA than anything else. No gear shifting even. And the menus are horrible... clearly designed for console, but also lacking in any intuitiveness.

The only reason I bought it was because I googled "Test Drive vs Burnout Paradise" and every result was people on forums saying BP was better. BS! Is the internet full of morons or what?

But guess what... I can't play Test Drive Unlimited either. I bought the game as a "digital download" from Digital River, and they limit installations to 2 or 3. My key gets rejected. Atari says to go to Digital River for support. From what I've read, they just tell you to complain to Atari. http://forums.atari.com/archive/index.php/t-3697.html

Thank goodness TDU2 will be on Steam. I'd love to stick to to Atari for fucking us over with "digital downloads" through Digitalriver, but I want to play the game too much.

Did you actually read anything about the game before buying it? Every Burnout game has been extremely arcadey and not at all realistic. That's the point. And a lot of people like that. Crazy, I know.

I played the game and enjoyed it because I wasn't expecting a driving sim, I was expecting a Burnout game. Not sure why you're so mad about it.

"Extremely arcadey" is a huge understatement.

I wish the reviews had mentioned how horrible the interface is.

Porsche Unleashed/Unlimited was indeed the best NFS game ever made. It also was the least NFSy game in the series, being the closest to actual Simulation.

MCO was also great, but the Monthly Fee structure doomed it and was why I never bothered to Buy it(Played it during Beta Testing).

I haven't even tried the last few NFS Games, mainly because my Wheel is old and hasn't been Supported since Win98. That said, all NFS games have always had their charm and were certainly amongst the best Racing games out there at any given time. I just wish the series had stuck closer to the Porsche Unleashed/Unlimited model.

So you're missing out on the Crysis games, the Dragon Age games, the Mass Effect games, Command & Conquer, Dead Space, some Valve games, the Medal of Honor games and pretty much every sports title worth playing? Gee, I'm sure glad I don't have some moronic idealogical beef with a game publisher, I'd hate to miss out on some of the best games on the planet because of something so pathetic.

is that a trick question? yes... it must be.
Burnout has always been on the far arcade side of the racing games.

Played a lot of NFS games and really enjoyed them, accepting them for the arcade games they (generally) are.

That said, I loved Porsche Unleashed, which had one brand of car and much more realistic handling. I dual booted Win98 just because of that game (could not get it running in XP).

NFS III Hot Pursuit was my first NFS game, therefore a favorite.

High Stakes was pretty fun.

Hot Pursuit 2 was meh.

Not into pimping my ride so skipped the Underground series.

Most Wanted was spectacular fun.

Carbon - meh.

Have not played Shift - sounds like I need to.

It also sounds like I won't be playing this most recent Hot Pursuit. Thanks for the warning!

I tried to play NFS: Shift i believe it was, & while it looked nice, the handling was simply impossible, & retarded.

Yeah about as impossible and retarded as driving a real car. It's meant to be a simulator, not an arcade style game like the other NFS games.

Back on topic; NFS Hot Pursuit was a disappointment for me too. From the previews I was really looking forward to it, because it looked like they were going back to the old NFS days where there were many varied environments, and tense police chases. While the environments do look a bit more varied compared to underground, most wanted, etc, they are mostly just big straightaways with a turn thrown in here and there.

Not to mention there is nothing in the way of customization, or damage. To me this just feels like a burnout game with the NFS name tacked on (except burnout was better).

I wouldn't mind the in-game ads and such if they gave the game out for free. But since you paid to play the game, these ads are very annoying; similar to sitting through multiple ads at a movie screen after you plunk $10 to see a flick...

trust me I was very dissapointed..

I loved TDU1

but the beta at least sucked a fatty..

Wasn't sure about posting on this, but hey, beta's gotta be almost over, and Eden is (so far) being dishonest in their portrayal of the game as an arcade-simulation hybrid.

I've put almost no time in it because I simply can't get any enjoyment out of the driving model and controls. There's a huge dead zone that still hasn't officially been fixed, and the cars handle like they're on rails. Here's hoping this is all fixed before release, of course...

Is there any racing game out there that uses a variable throttle, not just gas on, gas off?

I don't mind the NFS games, I actually found MW to be pretty fun. I just haven't been into gaming for a while now. Hope it's just a funk.

I thought most of them did. Pretty sure NFS Shift and Grid both have that feature. I don't play a lot of PC racing games though; I have Forza 3.

EA isn't as bad as they used to be. I think they've learned their lesson. While they still have the same old franchises, they've produced some innovating stuff in the last two years.

If you want to go after a publisher based on the pure crap they spew out, Ubisoft is far worse than EA ever was.

Yes; all of them. Try using a steering wheel and pedals. Also a 360 controller (or other controller with analog triggers) would do the same.

Well, we've kinda gotten off topic from my OP, but the original complaint was they take a decent game and fuck it all up with their bullshit added on. The annoying preview vids and all the nonsense you have to dig through just to play the damn game, not to mention the difficult menu systems and other issues.
TDU didnt have all those problems because Eden Games didnt let Atari push them around.
