While I await the final parts for my new rig, I want to see what my window case will look like with all the led fans going. Can I power up the psu with just the fan controller and the 4 fans hooked up (nothing else plugged in), or will this cause some problems?

I wouldn't do it for extended periods, just on principle; but there should be no problem for a modern, decently built, power supply. Just hook things up, then short the green wire to ground.

ya, bend a paper clip and stick one in the green plug and one in the black, I think, which is ground.

If you've got some optical drives or somthing else I'd add them. The PSU may not be too happy running with such a little load.
