Just fired up Terminator: Salvation.... how bad is it?

I'm a HUGE fan of T1 & T2. I had to see T3 which was just awful.

How is Salvation? I'm about 3 mins into the movie now. RT says it's shitty. Is it that bad?

I actually thought it was worse than T3, which was at least kind of fun. It's very bleak and lacks enough plot and character development to tie together all the action. That being said, Sam Worthington turned in a nice performance and it does have some very impressive action sequences. I wouldn't discourage someone from watching it but don't expect much.

It's got Christian Bale in it. It's so bad that its not even worth downloading.

I disagree with the assessments that it was worse than T3. T3 was terrible. Salvation may only be marginally better, but to me it was more watchable than T3.

It's a modern action movie, which is to say that it has top notch special effects, no real acting, a plot that would fit in a pop-up book, and big name actors that are under utilized in every way.

So... if you get a little wasted, and try not to think about it, you might be okay with it as it will pass some time. It's in now way in the same league as the first or second T movies.

Salvation isn't an awful movie, but it's not really that great either. I agree with BrownShoes in that this movie doesn't actually do much at all for the Terminator time line. In fact, all you learn is that
they made hybrid humans before they made robots
. If Salvation was a movie on its own, it probably wouldn't be considered as bad, but in regard to Terminator 1 and 2, it falls flat.

Not nearly as enjoyable as I had hoped. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure I even finished watching it...

My favorite part: Bale shouting directions to rebel pilots based on the future-history cassette tapes left to him by his mom.

Bale: "Take evasive action!"
Pilot: Wow! you're a prophet! I was planning to fly in a straight line, but now I'll be saved by your mom's tapes! Yay!

40 mins into it now. The movie is miles above the comic joke that is T3.

Pretty good action scenes (in the middle of robot bike chase scene). It's good to see reimagined Terminator universe with other T machines.

T3 was a joke.. the moment I saw Arnold walking into a gay bar and putting on a star glasses...
