Hmmm.. Canada doesn't have a netflix like service? I wish I could help you but all I know about Canada is that the drinking age is much younger there ;)

Does Ghibli have any other jems that I've yet to discover? I've loved everything I've seen by them - princess mononoke, kiki's, tatuo (sp?), and spirited awawy.. what do you recommend I look up next? Perhaps I'll do some adding to my netflix bin too.. thanks!

It doesn't have a good rating, and I don't even like anime... but I've added it to my queue.

Did you know that the new netflix rating system is based on movies you've rated in the past? So, since you hate animes the system guessed that you would hate this movie.. Since I kinda like the stuff and like war movies it guessed that I'd rate it a 4 out of 5.. It's like amazon's "if you like X you'll like Y"...

Oh that's interesting. Sure enough:

Average of people who rate like you: 2.5 stars
Average of 16,707 ratings: 3.8 stars

Yep, trust me though... You don't have to like anime to like this movie.. my parents hate the stuff..

I most likely will. I don't like anime because of the sci-fi/fantasy stuff, which this doesn't have.

Those are the only ones that have been released in the U.S.. There're a few I saw in Japan that I thought were great, but they have not been released here. I don't know if they'd seem cheesy today though. I haven't seen those movies in more than 13 years, and some animes don't hold up well over time.

I have seen this one on the shelf everyday I work, but have not seen it yet.

I will definetly see it now and the fact that it looks visually amazing will help to

Saw it along time ago. Yes, it's very well done and certainly pulls at your heart strings, but it's not a "must own" for me.

Don't tell me you haven't seen Nausicaa and Laputa?? ;) I like Laputa the best since it has more injection of humour than the rest. Whisper of the Heart is one of the newer one

Just finished watching it.

Wow...

This is honestly the first movie to ever actually bring me to tears. Certain movies have come close (for example Saving Private Ryan) but this movie was unbelievable. It's just indescribable how sad and amazing this movie really is.

I'm glad that you liked it! I know a few more people netflixed it based on my recommendation - any other comments? BTW, just thinking about the movie still makes me a bit sad... I don't remember the last time a movie has had that effect on me!

Funny coincidence, I had this in from Netflix a couple days ago. I haven't watched it yet, I should have brought it in to work so I would have had something to do tonight. :(

I got it on sale at Best buy a while back... definitely good. That might be an option for some, DVD stores WILL have it if you feel like a purchase.
