I just finished all 26 episodes and it turned out to have lots of deep background story. Kind of reminds me of Evangelion

Few Qs:

1. So what was Faye Valetine's past about? She simply got into a spaceship accident and was frozen? That's it? Nothing more than that? If so, I'm quite dissapointed. I thought she'd have some significant past.

2. Nothing much was identified about the relationship between Spike and Jet except that they met 3 years ago after Spike supposedly left the syndicate. How did they run into each other? What made Spike to stay with Jet and his ship?

3. I guess Cowboy Bebop didn't have such satisfying ending that Evangelion had. Evangelion had about last of their five episodes revealing shocking backstory of every individuals. But It felt as though Bebop ended so suddenly. Nothing was revealed in detail about Julia and Spike. Nor did they show anything about the past history of Spike and Vicious. And Red Dragon Syndicate itself...

Anyone care to elaborate???

Every time someone mentions this crap I'm reminded of that mutant pig guy from the Ninja Turtles. Rocksteady and Bebop, wasn't it? I think the other guy might have been a rhino...

bebop is one of my favorite anime:) i havn't watched it in a while cuz i only rented the dvds:p i think a movies out in japan right now.

anyways, did you really watch the entire series? i'm pretty sure they explain why she was frozen, she had a desease or osmething i think.

my mem is suck.

i remember faintly that the spike jet relationship was explained, what it was, i don't remember.

my mem is suck.

and well bebops a bit episodic in nature, so i didn't really expect a story arch. they could have kept adding eps after that for a 2nd season. well theres the movie already.

someone else could probably answer ur questions.

as u can tell i don't rewatch much anime:)

SHe was in an accident, then frozen. i can't remember the details but she couldn't pay off her medical bills. That is why they are looking for her.

Not sure about this, I haven't watched it in a while. Jet left the police and met Spike. I don't know much else.

I liked Bebop's ending better than Eva's. The last few episodes explained Julia and Spike. It didn't go into much of the past on any of the characters, even though their past played a crucial role in the show. I guess they just leave it up to you.'

The movie is supposed to take place right before the last 2 episodes. It might clear some things up. I think it is out in Japan now, not sure when it will be released here though.

Please remember to add a **spoiler** warning to your thread titles when you are talking about
watching the end of some show or anime. It gives an extra heads up to people who might not want to
know certain things about a show before they get a chance to watch it themselves.
A few more spoilers are included below...

1. Why would you think she'd have some significant past? After all that happened before, I think the
way "Hard Luck Women" turned out was a pretty fair statement both on Faye's past, and how her life
was turning out in her present.

2. That would probably have been too boring a story to tell, and it would have involved showing things about
Spikes life that would have messed up the way they were trying to tell other parts of the story. Spike was a
former gangster, and Jet is a former cop. They seemed to avoid bringing up their pasts because of the tension
it might cause between them.
Spike probably had to fake his death to keep the syndicate from chasing after him when he left,
Jet has helped (tried to help) other people "leave" the syndicate in the past. That was probably enough for
Spike to want his help in getting away. Spike probably planned on leaving a lot sooner, but both seemed to be
down on thier luck, so it was a better idea to work together.

3. I think most people would disagree, many think it had a much more satisfying ending than Evangelion.
Cowboy Bebop had a solid conclusion, but it is an open ended story. The creators never intended for us to
know every aspect of what happened before or after the period of time that the show was about. That's
why it seemed so abrupt. It was more like an imaginary documentary of a few months of these peoples lives
than an ongoing saga about Spike or Jet.

Eva had shocking revelations in the later episodes because the goal of that show was to turn what seemed to be a
standard mecha series into a show with more political and social intrigue involved. It was more important that you
knew the great secrets of each character there, in order to create a bigger impact when you see how their lives come
together.

Like a lot of anime, what is revealed is done so in the context of other parts of the story, so you have to think about
minor things that were said and done in past episodes to really understand the meaning of later events.
The relationship between Spike, Vicious, and Julia is pretty clear by the end. And explains much of why Spike had to
leave the syndicate, and why he does not get along with Vicious.

As for the syndicate, that is not exactly explained in the series. So I will pass this on as it was explained to me:

In the future, when the jump gates were first being put online, there was an accident with the Earth gate. The
accident blew up part of the moon, and caused devastation on some populated areas of the Earth. Because of
the danger left by the millions of moon rocks floating over earth, the people of earth had to move on to other
planets a lot sooner than was originally planned for. Because no planning had gone into place to put Government,
Law Enforcement, and Social services in place from the start; a lot of the mafia and criminal organizations were
able to set up more powerful "kingdoms" of thier own from the start.

By the time of CB, civilization had gotten it together enough that the planetary Governments we're able to
fight down most of the small time criminals, and the organized groups were starting to fall apart due to age
and infighting.

hehe yea, and when i said accuracy, i was refering to translation. theres only so much you can do when you gotta make sure the mouth movements match in a forced dub translation. u gotta lose information sometimes, its pretty sad.

ok, I have a Q myself. Did Spike die at the end?!! I got into an argument with someone about whether he died or merely lost consciousness. It's possible he just fainted and didn't die while the person I argued with said he died. I see no definitive proof that he died. Anyone know?

heh yup. i thought evas ending was just loony dribble from the demented mind of the creator, who was depressed and suicidal pretty much from his own admission. basically he leaves u in to fill in the holes.. and work hard at it you must:p

that and the animation for the most part sucked, only the mecha were kewl.

that being said, both series have awesome soundtracks:)

The dubbed version isn't that bad. It good if you are lazy and don't want to read.

So did Spike die at the end or not?! I really need to know!

I'd agree with you, however I think the dubbing on animes such as Cowboy Bebop, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke were all EXCELLENT and were a fine substitute to reading subtitles.

On that note, DON'T EVER EVER listen to the dubbed version of Graveyard of the Fireflies. [shudder]

Of course he died. No question about it. The dual death of Spike and Vicious make for a grand ending. They both loved Julia in a love triangle. The death of Julia was the outcome of their hatred towards one another, which also lead to their own death. It's the ultimate tragedy. It'd be silly if Spike survived for the sake of being the main character and was simply "unconscious"

And situationally speaking, he took a bullet AND a slash with that blade across his chest. That's why the guards in the end didn't bother finishing him off and rather just stared at his imminent death.

LOLyourFace, yes I agree that it makes the ending better if he died. But I still think there is a chance he did not die just in case the producers wanted to make a sequel or something. Anime characters have had worst than a gun shot wound and a slash to the chest and lived.

Oh a side note, did Kenshin die at the end of Seisouhen OAV 2?!

I really wish the anime creators could make it very clear whether someone dies or not. Just having someone close their eyes and laying on the ground doesn't make it clear enough whether he/she is dead or just unconscious.

He died. How do you become unconscious after willingly walking forward while saying the last line? ("the bang")

Bebop is possesses one of those ultimate ending that results in utter tragedy. Because Spike died, because Julia and Vicious died.. it leaves that heart-throbbing feeling to the audience.

Sequel would be lame IMO because he was actually "unconscious" There would be no story left to tell. Faye's past have been revealed, Ed left for good, the ultimate story drive- Spike, Vicious and Julia all died. Red Dragon Syndicate is no more.

He died.

I wouldn't want a sequel of Bebop as much as I loved it. It'll be an insult to the original. Kind of like Evangelion and Terminator 2. (I'm veryu skeptic about upcoming T3)
