Are sam and frodo supposed to be gay? I mean, com'n Sam doesn't pass a chance to put his hand on frodo's shoulder. Or they sleep, hugging each other. Or in that one passage, Sam "put his masters head on his lap and started caressing his hair"..... Geez, get a room you two

the novelization for TTT came out before the movie... heck, you can even get the return of the king already! (i think its a horrible title, btw, such a rip off of return of the jedi... i mean, come on, 3rd movie in an epic trilogy and they're both return of...?)

So being gay is wrong you say?

BTW, you are a genius to combine both LOTR and homosexuality in one thread. What potential for a flame fest :)

Maybe such acts are perfectly fine and acceptable and not portrayed as being "gay" but it is the culture you live in.

In the ridiculous North American culture, any strong bond between two or more males is portrayed as being gayish.

Have you read the books?

*Book Spoiler*

Sam does get married in the end and lots of children.

Cheers,
Aquaman

No, any strong bond where they 'caress' each other is considered 'gayish'. Any strong bond with high fives and butt slaps is macho!

Simply because the books/characters don't fit the hollywood image of what a young male is supposed to be like doesn't mean they are gay.

I believe the books were written about 40 years ago.

No, Sam just has a lot of respect and love for his master. Few people in our modern world realize what it's like when you're out in the wilderness with nothing to get you through but your friend.

Yup, this was written in a time when most people didn't think about homosexual overtones. Either that, or Tolkein was naive.

Wasn't the return of the king written before the return of the jedi?

No, Return of the Jedi came out in the eighties some time. Return of the King isn't even out yet.

I'm kidding, I'm kidding, sheesh:D

Yeah, there definitely is a lot of fruit in his basket.

There is a part in ROTK where sam just stops and cant control his emotions. He just sits there thinking about how in love he is with frodo. As a friend. :D

i never thought of that... for two epic trilogies to both have "return of" in the names the last movies is pretty dumb. it's bad enough that they made the name of the second one "the two towers" so soon after 9/11, that was so insensitive, but for them to rip off star wars is even worse.

Umm, if anything Star Wars ripped off of LOTR? Return of the Jedi came out in the 80s and the Return of the King was published during the 60s?

<sigh> methinks someone needs to buy the LOTR:FOTR Extended Edition DVD and watch the appendices on how LOTR was started by Tolkien.

The thing is... The Two Towers was the title 50 years before 9/11 (It was first published in 1954) and it should be the other way around since ROTK was published in 1955 while jedi was 20 years later?
