Just Finished Organizing all of my digital pics

Lifer

And no, none of it is p0rn....🙂

Spent most of the day eliminating dups (and dups of dups) after putting 5 years' worth of pics from all of my various digital cameras (have had 5 cameras in 5 years) into one folder from 3 desktop PC's and one laptop...over 12.2K pics taking up 15.8 GB...

some folders were on all 3 PC's since I would just copy folders from my old pc to my new one when I upgraded machines...

now the new folder is backed up on another PC and also burnt on 4 DVD's that are sitting in a fireproof sentry safe (hope I never have to find out how well this fireproofing works though 🙂 )

that is all...

Ok, if you don't plan on sharing with the world, I don't care 😉

as you shouldn't...🙂

but maybe it will be a wake up call for some others to backup their picture files...

after seeing some relatives and friend lose some of their digital pictures to hard drives going bad or being accidentally deleted, it would suck to lose some of the pictures I have taken in the past 5 years...

Damn, WTF?

I only have 8gb in 2 years.

But, we also have to take into account what cameras we have. I only have a Canon A60, 2mp.. so my pictures are much smaller than someone who has 8mp pictures or something.

We should go by the number of pictures... lol..

I have 11,185 total pics in my pictures directory, 9,568 of which are unique.

I have a 20D so file sizes on those are a little bigger. I have some pics from my G3 and S400 in there as well. Overall 18,659 pics.

In two visits to the Atlanta Botanical Garden I had >4 DVD-Rs worth of RAW images. Good thing I don't do this monthly. It'd freak you out.

 to OP. are you planning on sharing them online? I spent some time last month sorting out and gathering my 3GB of pics from the last two years... now I wanna share them online but i can't decide how 🙁

I only have about 200 of those files in RAW. If I shot raw, it would be a lot more.

I do ocassionally, but not planning to do any of the ones I organized today though...

A buddy of mine lost some baby pics recently and they didn't have them backup anywhere which was one of the motivating factors to do this...I would be totally bummed if I lost my wedding and vacation pics due to something like that...

took over 6 hours off and on today to do this...

I have around 60 CDs of images plus the ones that haven't been burned yet =~ 50 Gb.

The ThumbsPlus database shows 70k entries but many are dups so I estimate I have around 60k images. The thumbnails themselves take up 559Mb.

No porn.

my husband has 44GB of pics. i seriously wonder how he manages that.

and he hasn't defragged since he started maintaining his picture collection. now defragment won't work 😛

I went on a vacation and there were two girls with digital cameras. In two weeks the accumulated 3GB of pictures. I had to bring my laptop to constant unload the memory cards.

Negative, we should go by the megapixels of each camera followed by the resolution of the pictures. My 5MP camera can take highass resolution pics (2592x1944 or 2304x1728), mid-sized (1600x1200), or small (640x480). I take most of my pics at 1600x1200 just because I almost never print them out and they're around 650-700kb apiece at that res.

I've been using it since ~1994 when it was called ThumbsUp! and I don't see how folks who have more than fifty or so images get by without it. After the email program and browser it is easily the most used program on my PC.
