Well I just finished my first build a little while ago. Everything looked nice and in tact. I go hook up the power supply AC cord to the outlet and try to turn on the computer, but no luck. Nothing happens at all. No sounds, no lights. I checked the 4 pin connector and 24 pin connector and they both seem in place. They can only go in one way right? I hope this isn't bad. Sad Any ideas?

Thanks!

Did you plug the power button in correctly? I have done that before and boy was I confused for a few hours.

Hi,
Just make sure the plug is plugged in, the switch is on.
The cable is plugged into the psu.
The psu is turned on ( 1 ).
The power button is plugged in to the correct header switch on the mobo. (most likely not)

Nope, nothing. :(

I tried playing with the front panel plugs. I switched the power switch plug several times. I put it where the manual says to put it, but still no luck. The switch on the psu was turned on. I dunno what it could be. This blows. Any other things I can try. Reassembling? Fixing the heatsink? If anything it might just be the psu because I have no response at all. No fan, lights, nothing, I push the button. Blank. Any ideas? :(

Is the switch on the back of the power supply set to 110/120 instead of 220/240?

If not - try again.

If the power switch on the back of the power supply on?

Ask the simple stuff first - don't mean to insult your intelligence.

If this is all good, my next recommendation is to disconnect EVERYTHING except power supply, cpu, and 1 stick of ram. Pull out video card, everything. Disconnect front panel USB, all of it. Bridge power headers on motherboard directly with small tip flat screw driver. If nothing powers up, at least now you know it is PS, CPU, or Memory. If it does power up, add in your video card, try again, etc... til you find the point of failure.

Edit - if it doesn't power up with PS / CPU / Memory only, then pull motherboard out, to eliminate possiblity of a grounding issue. Set it on the stat bag it came in, on top of the motherboard box, with just PS / CPU / Memory - and try again. If it powers up now, but didn't in the case, check your standoffs.

Make sure there is nothing that could be causing a short on the mobo. The Antec P180b has several standoffs that do not have corresponding holes on my Abit KR7A-Raid (and you can't remove the standoffs either). Hence, when I transplanted my abit kr7a-raid based system, the system wouldn't boot until I put some paper between the mobo and the unused standoffs (I probably should have used electrical tape or something more sophisticated, but I was lazy).

eh what exactly are standoffs. I think this may be the problem. The tiney spikes under neath the motherboard?

did you screw the board directly to the back of the case, or did you put little brass standoff nuts in the holes on the back of the case, then mount the board on to those? those little brass nuts are standoffs and they are needed to make sure there is space between the motherboard and the back of the case so the "tiny spikes" don't short out ...

oh my god

it has POST :)

It looks like the mobo was being short circuited by the back of the tray. Screwed in a lil bit too tight. Everything seems to be running fine now. Thanks everyone, if it wasn't for all the suggestions I would have given up along time ago. I was cursing myself for trying to build a pc, but when I saw it post, my god what a feeling. Thanks!!
