So I was formally a wow player so I missed a ton of games. I recently went back and got some of the games i missed. FEAR really was a great game, albeit a bit linear. The combat was top notch. I think I'll try the demo for FEAR 2 this week sometime.

Is it worth playing through the 2 expansions for FEAR? I read that they arent taken into affect for the FEAR 2 story lines and that they were made by other developers. Are they worth it at all?

I guess I am one of the few here that hate FEAR.

Have you played Bioshock yet? Great game, much better than FEAR.

Also, try the COD's you missed out on.

I'm like .. 1/4th the way through bioshock. I put it on hold for the time being because it was so scary, hehe.

bioshock is 10x more scary then FEAR. I just really liked FEAR for the action. I dont do well in games with limited ammo :)

I feel like its a feud between FEAR and Bioshock, you hate one and love the other. I love FEAR and havent played Bioshock but I want to though.

If you get scared by little creepy girl; i.e. grudge, ring, etc. then FEAR will get you. I am not sure the exact element as to what makes Bioshock scary but it depends on the person. I'm sure if half-life scares you then FEAR and bioshock will make you cry :p

Loved FEAR, the firefights/AI were terrific. Only major negative was the samey-same environments. The first expansion I kinda enjoyed despite no real addition to the storyline, the second one was just more of the same with some new guns, but nothing offensively bad about it.

I have to agree with this, I liked FEAR, the action was fun, but the plot wasn't so great. BioShock, on the other hand, was fantastic. I got around to it recently on the $5 deal from Steam and that may have been my best entertainment/$ value ever from a game.

FEAR combat felt much better than Bioshock combat. Towards the middle to end of the game, it took an entire clip from your machine gun just to put 1 splicer down. Bioshock was more like an FPS rpg where you had to collect a ton of shit to upgrade your weapons. Otherwise, enemies simply would not die. Aside from the combat, which is not bad, just different, Bioshock was simply amazing.

my problem with FEAR is that i can't seem to enjoy shooters anymore because i got used to the AI from FEAR. I couldn't stand COD4 and 5 because of the crappy AI

It's worth playing through the first expansion as it develops the storyline a bit more and has an interesting although sad ending. It also picks up like 1 second after the 1st ends. As for the 2nd expansion avoid that as if it was Alma.

Very good AI for the weaker units (bigger they are the dumber they are), one example was in a battle the AI's retreated as I advanced killing 2 of them in the process, one then ducked under a fallen shelf to escape and just out of the corner of my screen I see the barrel of a shot gun pointed at my head, then game over. The b***** flanked me while I was distracted with the guy running.

-edit- FEAR is the reason I can no longer play FO3, I expect too much from the AI.

Story wise, to continue into FEAR2, Perseus mandate isn't necessary i believe. But extraction point does!

Most FPS are linear so I cannot really fault FEAR for that. I liked FEAR's story a lot, it had some twists and was definitely intriguing.

The AI is superb. Actually listing to the solider say "hes hiding behind the crate, flush him out" and then to see a grenade fly above your head, hit the wall and land next to you is very cool.

The story picks up at the end of the first game, the expansions are not canon.

The plot goes from bad to worse in the expansions. Otherwise they are more of the same good fun.

I didn't liked F.E.A.R. much despite its good A.I (which I thought was the only positive point of the whole game), and F.E.A.R. 2's demo convinced me not to buy it. But to each their own tastes of course.

I liked FEAR and all the expansions. There isn;t much new, but the combat scenarios are a bit better laid out in the later expansions than in the original. If you liked FEAR, you will like the expansions. You don't need to play them, but they are fun.

And just for the record Bioshock was also a great game. I, personally, can't see how the two can be compared since FEAR is an extremely basic first person shooter with the best AI available and hardly any story, and Bioshock is a super in depth, creative, amazing adventure with an incredible story, but with very basic AI and simple combat even on the hardest level.

There is samey environments, but the biggest Con about Fear are the huge gaps between the shock/scary moments. Great game though.

I thoroughly enjoyed Fear and both expansions. The second expansion in particular received negative reviews but I thought it was almost as good as the original game. The new mercenaries were great opponents to fight.

Plus Fear delivers some of the best lighting & shadowing I?ve ever seen in a game, rivaled only by Doom 3. They perfectly nailed the look of light hitting various surfaces, and the whole thing looks incredibly realistic without resorting to blur filters and post-processing that modern engines use.
