I have been a fan of Arkane studios ever since I played Arx Fatalis. This game is definitely a jump from AF, although different by design. The melee combat system is a great one - I have never seen it work so well (oblivion should take a lesson on physics here.)

The game has multiple endings although they leave a little bit lacking. The story itself is not the best written but it is carried out and told very well which in a video game is just as important in my opinion. I hope they continue to make games based on this engine.

The game took me about 9 hours in all to complete. The game is short but I would definitely recommend its purchase as the content that is present is more in depth than other game content.

Apparently the game has some bugs that caused it to launch poorly but there is a patch out that addresses a huge list of errors. I installed the latest patch and only encountered one bug throughout the game. The only thing about the game in a negative sense now in my opinoin is optimization. I have a beast of a computer now and can play the game with high settings and AA AF turned up but on my previous system which I would consider the average for a current PC gamer I had to turn nearly all settings down or off and that was running a 6800oc and 1gig of ram.

End of story - if you have a high end PC and are craving some fantasy excitement pick up this title.

20 for me ... did you play all four endings .. and if so ...

... can you PLEASE explain the *Xana Ending*

it makes no sense

look at my recent thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=33&threadid=1961388&enterthread=y

and it's DM M&M ... not DMoMM :p

Minor SPOILER

If your recall when you first touched the skull of shadows you could see Xana more and more. I believe that after you get the skull again she is able to leave your physical body. There are two Xana endings by the way. One where you let her die and one where she does not die. I did see all the endings but after I saw the first one I cheated to see the others.

The only thing I did not like about the game is the ending. I think they could have spent another week so that the ending would at least be somewhat fulfilling. Four endings is great but if they have the same basic animations and words.. it is worthless.

thanks for taking the time to look

actually playing from the *Cathedral* to the End with Xana 'fused' is only about an hour since you know the way and can just bypass the Undead Cyclops

BUT, that is not what i am asking

you and Xana are SEPARATED by the power of the Skull ... i know ... but here's the question:

1) you hand off the Skull to your Demon Dad - he is Pleased with you but THREATENS Xana - "i will deal with your plotting ... later"

so that ain't so happy -- if you like her

2) you keep the Skull and your Demon dad threatens you both with Eternal Torment when he eventually breaks free

and that ain't so happy either
:Q

so Four Suck Endings ... with lots of confusion ... just like Gothic3 :p
[and i guess NWN2 ... this is a new trend i DON'T care for - CRAPPY or uneven STORYTELLING]

i guess we need the "expansions"
