So once I have hundreds of files on my "fourth desktop", lets say I need to work with them on a machine not connected to the web... Do I have to copy & paste each individual online file into Word files to work with them offline? Do you plan to offer a way to import/export Word files with your service? 🙂

As for one document at a time, you can paste word documents into the control right now and get something nice out the other side, so long as you're not using insane formatting. The opposite also works.

As for offline work, I'm working on that 🙂

I didn't see any mention of how secure or private the user's documents would be.
Might not be a bad thing to have.

No doubt I'm putting a lot of thought into that... it's trickier than you might think. I'll definitely be building in some better security and encryption.

Then again, people send e-mails all over the Internet unencrypted without concern. It seems that because this isn't "email", people freak out, and yet they email word documents to one another all the time.

"Save As.." closes the file you're currently working on. You shouldn't have to go open your file again just because you saved it. And the fact that it lacks both a "print" feature and a "save Word file" (or a similar fomat) feature makes it pretty damn useless in the real world. In my experience Word documents are always delivered either via email to someone, or on paper. This site can't do either.

Also, the editing box is tiny. It should approximate an 8.5"x11" page, like word processors do.

Thanks for the feedback, notfred.

Also, thanks for pointing out the Save As... bug. I must've broke that in the last build 🙂

intresting concept, so basicaly your designing a website that lets you create documents, save them, and access them. Cool idea but sounds infinitely complex.

Overall I like it, but i've got a couple bugs and suggestions:

Bugs:
1) Having a '<' or '&' in the file name generates an error that is just some XML code.
2) it allows you to create a file with a blank filename, but it doesn't allow you to delete it. Also if you select it, then select another file the blank file stays highlighted.
3) While in the 'Save As' dialog, pressing enter doesn't save it, but rather gives you a new blank file.

Suggestions:
1) When a file has been modified, switching to another file should ask you to save first.
2) The 'Save As' option should always be available
