Just doing video encoding/decoding -- what CPU?

Hi all,
I find lately all I really do is do a LOT of encoding/decoding on video and also work much on editing graphics. I am almost sure I really don't need to improve my video card (currently have a 6800GT AGP). My question though is is my AMD X2 3800+ ok for all this? The apps I use are in general not set up to take advantage of dual core but I have done some work using the new DivX6.2 codec and have noted quite the speed boost.

Honestly although I am blown away as to the ability of my computer to do things, I am still waiting a long time for much of my encoding, and then compressing or decompressing huge files. Most of the picture editing is for brochures I make and I dont think that is slow, it's just encoding. Thus since I dont play games, and I don't think I need a better video card, what would give me a good improvement? Would I be better suited getting say an operton 165 (same as my 3800+) but ocing it to hell? I can't get my 3800+ over 2450 stable so I just dont bother. Would I be better served to swithc to an Intel Dual core like a 9xx series or 8xx series and OC those?? Again for NO gaming and just video and audio encoding and unraring ... what would you all suggest?

thanks
Robert

My Opty 165 can only do 2.4ghz at stock voltage, but even then it literally encodes movies at like 70-110 fps. You may get lucky with a higher OC, but the performance difference would be marginal.
