wow that's horse manure. It should be first come first served on the day of pickup. That's how we lucked out with our pomeranian... got there at 530am and waited and waited till they opened.Originally posted by: kermalou
***UPDATE***
Somy mom goes to the pound at 8 to pick up the dog in the morning. The pound says you have to wait till 9 since someone else wants the dog too. So the dog goes up for auction. It turns out the other people that want the dog are the Southern California Boston Terrier or something group. The dog goes as high as $250 and my mother stops. The group told my mom if you don't bid against us you can have the dog for 200 - 250, but if you bid it will be higher. The pounds asks this group what they will do is that they will find the dog a "loving" home and the guy at the pound goes they are already a loving home with a child, my brother, who wants the dog. Long story short, greed took over.

Sorry, but I found the story very confusing. The wording at least. I understood the gist of it but it was still confusing.
The group and your mom bid against each other and they got it up to $200-250. Then they said that if your mom stopped bidding, she could have it at that price? In the way normal auctions work, if the GROUP stopped bidding, she would have it at that price. Because if she stopped bidding, the group could have it for free (or a dollar).
And how is this greed? They are an animal rescue group. There is no greed here.
My wife was at a dog pound this morning about to pick up a dog for my son. When she went to pick up this dog that my son could not stop talking about for four days, she was told that there was another "person" interested in the dog and there would have to be an auction. That is fine with me, but what irks me the most is that the other "person" was your organization. We were willing to adopt this dog and bring him into our house, but your so called non-profit organization offered to sell the dog to us. What kind of operation are you people running over there? This dog had a loving and caring home ready for him. I told him what an adoption was in the first place and he understood that. He called in the middle of the day from school to find out where the dog was, how could my wife explain to him what happened? That the adoption turned out to be an auction? What your organization did was inhumane. There are so many animals that need rescuing, you are making a mockery out of the adoption process.
