Do you claim the "bonuses" for roughing up the rowdy college kids that get too grabby with the girls?

cash gifts under $500 were not reported.

Even with a tax program it's still a nightmare. My tax return was 23 pages long. It's not like I own an business. I don't have any employees. I get a W-2 and a couple of 1099's. I own a house. Nothing special. But the way the system is rigged up... gah. WTF knows if it's even right? Turbo Tax says I'm fine.

It shouldn't have to be like this! I'm going to go have a beer and curse the darkness.

You cant cast curse on the darkness, theres nothing there! Let me see your character sheet...

I used the Turbo Tax Freedom file, since i don't make that much.

My wife does mary kay and i work in retail. We're getting 3100 back from the feds, and 1000 from the state of MN.

Thank god for the Earned Income Credit and working family credit. Makes living near the poverty line not so bad come tax time.

I wouldn't mind paying more taxes if they took the hassle out of doing it. Instead of deducting for everything under the sun and then making me spend agonizing hours figuring out the monkey code on the forms, I'd be willing to pay 40% or whatever the tax rate out of my paycheck and call it done :p

We filed on Monday, not too bad this year, although not as nice as last year. Income keeps pushing up and starting to get out of some nice tax breaks, but overall still good. I got to say though; the Feds seem to be getting quicker and quicker every year. Filed at 1:30 pm on Monday and was accepted by 7:30 Monday evening.

Meh. I honestly don't find it to be that complicated. But then again, as a banker, dealing with income documents is practically my life.

Still, the OP's taxes shouldn't have been much more than just the 2 pages of the standard 1040 with schedules A (itemized deductions), C (self-employment, his 1099's), and SE (self-employment tax, i.e. FICA for the self-employed), plus maybe Form 2106 (unreimbursed employee business expenses).
So 6 pages total for federal plus his state and local returns (if any). Worksheets don't count.
