lol, one time I had to do one of those sit and reach tests. I stretched really far, but the limiting factor wasn't my arms. It was my shoulder and neck. After getting a 35 (or something like that, a good score for a guy), my neck and shoulders hurt for the whole weekend :( Not worth the 35 (or whatever the # was).

I was just REALLY pissed at something (or should I say someone). Needed to get it out. Well, next time I should probably resort to video games or something :(

<< Question is! did you do them right? >>

Probably not. Most people don't. Correctly done pushups are damn hard.

Yup, I'm pretty sure I did do them right. Back straight, hands at shoulder width, chest touching the floor.

Not really! I used to do 65 this summer, nice and slow and all the way down.

What is a correctly done pushup? There are different kinds of pushups meant to stress different parts of your body.

If you can't do a pushup properly, don't do any at all.

for the past two years i was a work-out-a-holic.... but for the past 6 months or so.. i've really slacked off.. (which means no exercise)

but recently i've tried to get back into it... and everytime i do pushups now.. it's like my joints are making music.. popping and cracking when i go down and back up....

LOL... good for you, but you didn't mention in what timeframe you did them ;)

BTW, in the Army PT test, you have two minutes to do your pushups. 55 would be a pass, but not by much :)

Try doing 40+ with your index and middle knuckles on hardwood floor. That's what we have to do for Tae Kwon Do and it's a female dog.

The normal pushup! Just a plain old regular push up (hands level to your sholders and so on.)

Fine! Maybe you did then:). Just that most people I know don't do the "chest touching the floor" part.

In truth, I can only do 25-30 correct pushups at one go.

Now a question:

I don't have access to weights or anything over winter break. Would doing a bunch of pushups be a good idea for a workout while I am at home (back at school I can use the gym for free)? I do crunches every night already, and started doing sets of pushups. Is this a good idea, or is the effect not very much?

Thanks for any answers.

Yes, do them. I was 100% scrawniness till about Grade 11 in high school. Then I started doing a few pushups here and there... I hadn't seen my friend in a while, and when we got together, he noticed without trying to look for it that I had gotten a larger chest. I didn't notice, myself, obviously... But doing 10-30 pushups now and then (at once) helped quite a lot. It also helped tone upper abs.

You can gain quite a bit from doing pushups... so if you don't have access to a gym, go for it, it helps. Personally I'm too lazy to make a good habit of doing enough pushups to gain more, but I used to do em and I'm stuck at the level I'm at for now. At least I don't have to do anything to maintain a six-pack. :D

A good chest excercise is this:

Get three chairs of equal height. Put your feet on one chair, and use the other two chairs for your hands. Drop your chest below the seat of the chairs so you get a very extended stretch and do pushups that way. Excellent way to work the chest without a gym.

A friend I train with is a pushup maniac, he held some kind of record in his HS for like 158 proper pushups in a row, if not it was close to that, he's a machine.
