Just curious - Why is the anandtech forums so heavily for Gore?

Haven't had the patience to read all all the election threads on the board, but with the exception of a few elite members, evreyone seems to be so strongly pro-Gore. Just trying to figure out why? What is it in gore's platform that appeals so much to hardware guru's?

In the main message board I hang out on, at camaroz28.com, it is overwhelmingly pro-Bush. Mainly because it seems apparent that if gore wins the election, he will get passed a law that makes 45mile per gallon cars mandatory, which will spell doom for rear-wheel drive high-horsepower V8 cars, which is something else I'm passionate about besides computers.

And 'course if I were into guns and hung out on NRA message boards, it would be overwhelmingly pro-bush as well. Whats the deal?

that's also why california's gore. tech people like gore because he likes innovation. he might not have invented the internet, but he certainly contributed to it.

If Gore wins, he better not touch my RWD V8 sports car, I intend to buy a new Corvette or Viper in a few years.

If you guys actually listened to what Gore said about the Internet ... IN CONTEXT ... what he meant was that he didn't physically INVENT the internet, but he WAS a major part in advocating it as a tool when it was in its very premature years.

<<he will get passed a law that makes 45mile per gallon cars mandatory, which will spell doom for rear-wheel drive high-horsepower V8 cars, which is something else I'm passionate about besides computers.>>

Are you also passionate about living? I always find it incredible how naive people are thinking that they can run around trashing the shit out of the environment and expect it to be very nice for much longer...Oh well.

I am not opposed to Gore because he claimed to have invented the Internet.

I am opposed to Gore because he favors partial-birth abortion, which is in my opinion the murder of an innocent baby.

I am opposed to Gore because he favors militant 'protection' of the environment at the expense of honest people who want to make use of the natural resources available to us, and most of whom would do so responsibly and with minimal or no harm to the environment.

I am opposed to Gore because he used public office and public equipment to raise money for his campaign, in direct violation of the law.

I am opposed to Gore because he favors the crippling of our national defense.

I am opposed to Gore because he 'claims' to want to eliminate the national debt, but his budget proposal would actually dramatically increase the national debt, without doing anything to fix Social Security.

(I could go on, but I am at work and have to actually go DO some work...) :(

I just saw 193 gore, 150 bush on CNN. Yet Bush is winning popular vote by almost 10%. Good for me, I'd vote for Gore if I could.

It's 'cause Gore "invented" the internet, and if it weren't for the 'net, AT wouldn't be here right now :)

Maybe we're for Gore because we have personally experienced the previous failures of "trickle down economics". As well, perhaps we don't believe that privatizing Social Security is wise, given that the majority of people have little to no stock market experience, and a major crash could wipe out a large % of their retirement fund(s) in a heartbeat. We also could believe that it is appropriate for the extremely wealthy portion of the population to bear a larger tax burden. Finally, we might be concerned about the effects of cutting too deeply in to viable social programs, which the (R)'s always say would be offset by private charitable contributions. Trouble with that is, the bulk of charitable contributions already comes from the middle class.

PS. - Gore couldn't phase the major automakers' lobbying power, no way he could get radical automotive changes passed. Not to mention it would be stabbing a major supporter (the UAW) in the back, ie. the equivalent of political suicide.

Midnight Rambler,

My guess is that your heart's in the right place but socialism just isn't the answer. Every increase in taxation, every new program and entitlement, every new legistlated moral issue, every right lost, every child receiving a piss-poor education, etc. takes us down that path. I'd rather not have my path chosen for me. Freedom to choose my own is what makes life exciting.

Although this is not neccessarily my opinion...

It could be because most of the regulars are young.. and raised by single mommies..... and were raised to be passive, generally looked upon by foreigners as wimpy, "Pu**ies, etc.. Shameful for sure.

They believe that we should throw our guns in bays..... and close all the wilderness areas (even though some of us know how to tread lightly).... and wear helmets to bed at night (so we don't wake up from a bad dream without mommy by our side.... and bump our heads in the night).

Oh and they believe everyone "owes" them something.

Thus they are voting for the party that will bring them closer to having a "queen" rule them.
(not saying that Gore is a queen.... but rather if he was.... they would not change their vote).

They tend to be afraid of loud noises.... and anything that goes fast.

I think that pretty much covers it.
