Just curious, why don't Jews proselytize?

But they do do it within the faith.

There are Jewish groups that actively try and "convert" other Jews to their sect. The Lubavitch Jews do this all the time.

What if you had a deadly disease and I had an antidote, but I didn't tell you because I wanted to "mind my own business". You would think me a pretty horrible person, wouldn't you?

Because there's nothing in the Jewish scripture that says "go out and convert others". Catholics and Muslims have it in their holy books that they should do this. The Jews also believe that they're the chosen of God and base it on the bloodlines of the people at the time that was pronounced. Hence it really has to be hereditary for it to be pure. They don't try and convert others because they believe that if God wanted to save others, He'd have done something about it. It's not their place. They will accept others who want to convert, but they're not going to go out and encourage it.

This is why the global Jewish population has remained about 10 million for the last 2000 years or so (with that big dip in the 1940s naturally).

yep, but i would only be annoyed if you told me i had a deadly disease and then couldn't give any solid evidence for it and to just take your antidote on faith.

Yeah, they also don't prounce the letter T. (I'm pretty sure that's them. Either them or it's the Ashkenazi) Really, they're a very minor sect. Those people are essentially the Jewish version of Jehovah's Witnesses. They just base things on a different interpetation of the holy books, like any other sect.

That is completely unfounded. The Lubavitch are a Hassidic sect, although they may not look like it. Every Hassidic sect is Ashkenaz. Everyone pronounces the letter "T". The Sephardim just have a more guttural (sp?) pronounciation of Hebrew than the Ashkenazim. Every sect of Hassidim, all Ashkenazim and Sephardim share the same holy books. There are widely varying customs however.

Ashkenazi is a term used to denote decsendants of European Jews. Sephardic Jews are from Spain, Portugal and Africa.

Correct. The literal translation of the word means "from Germany", but ti's become a braod term to define Jews of European descent. Sephardi literally means "from Spain" but it's also become a broad term. There are Sephardim from Syria, Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Egypt, Iran, Iraq etc. etc. etc.

Okay, no problem.

Just in case anyone is unfamiliar, here they are:

1. I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

2. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

3. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.

4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

5. Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long.

6. Thou shalt not kill.

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

8. Thou shalt not steal.

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.

i suppose i would, as you would have still been unable to show me a.) that the millions of others had the disease to begin with, and b.) i have that disease.

Well, that would be your choice, though not a good one, imo. I can only offer the antidote, I can't make you take it. But I did my part in offering it to you and not turning my back and "minding my own business" while the deadly disease ate away at you.

I've been a few times, actually. My first girlfriend was Jewish and she invited me to come to a "lock-in" at her synagogue, pretty fun, actually. Been a few times since then for special events. It is always a good service, and everybody is really nice.

So God opened up the doors to all Gentiles (non-Jews) and hence Christians came not just from Jews who believed but from all different mixes and races.

At least that's how I understood it.

thats what themuslims believe as well, except they also believe that because jesus's message wasnt concise and accutately recorded they priests who wrote the bible in their fervour extened and contorted the message, i cant remember exactly how but something like believing jesus was god's blood, when he was a chosen mortal prophet, and so on.

the muslims believe mohammed was then sent to clarify the message to all people, hence the koran was recorded verbatim in his lifetime, and mohammed's sayings were recorded within a few years of his death and ranked according to credibility and so on. that is one of the reasons for islam not changing, they dont want to move from the core message, and also for the sectarian tensions between shias and sunnies.
