Just curious, why don't Jews proselytize?

In fact, I believe that they actually try to discourage converts from joining in the faith.

Why is this?

Because most people do it for the jokes, and we want to keep them for ourselves. ;)

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure it revolves around money. And killing the Messiah.

Because people generally convert for the wrong reasons (for a girl, etc.) not for ideological reasons alone.

Absolutely not. Anyone can can Follow God, and you don't have to be Jewish to do it.

They don't have a "Great Commision" to follow, its about that simple.

Same is true for most other major religions save Christianity

Yes, but what about those who don't follow Yaweh? If there is one true God, the people who don't follow Him are "lost", aren't they?

Lost? I'm not sure what that means. They can still "get into heaven". Jews don't believe that others must believe in somone or some being to get into heaven. Be a good person, follow the seven Noahide (or Noachide) laws, that's all.

Interesting. Does this belief have a basis in scripture or is it based on tradition?

What are the seven Noahide (or Noachide) laws?

Thanks for the info!

p.s. By "lost" I mean a condition where you are separated from God through ignorance or disbelief.

Here is something I always wondered about (I think) baptists.

So you are supposed to "witness to someone" to give them the opportunity to see the light of Christ and accept them into their hearts. If they accept Christ, yay, if they don't, boo, they are going to hell. However, if someone is never educated about Christ then they are ignorant and will get into heaven regardless. So basically by witnessing to someone all your doing is giving them the chance to go to hell. If you had never said anything to them at all they would go to heaven... doesn't seem very neighborly does it?

Everyone just keep their mouth shut about religion and everyone wins! yay! lol, j/k.

Someone set me straight if I'm wrong, which could definitely be the case!

Except for getting sick and dieing before people knew about bacteria and bugs, is there some other reason for not eating pork?

And if that is the reason how come they've stuck to it still ?

It's just a rule that is in our Torah. Our G-d deems animals such as pork to be unclean, so we're instructed not to eat them.

If you want to take a secular look into the reasoning, then that is most likely the case. But it is part of their religion now, and the bible does not explain that law, only states it.

Edit: Some Jews don't follow this law.

Maybe they don't want to be as annoying as their Evangelitical Jesus Following Counterparts and most of is thank them for it!

Jews believe that they are the chosen ones and that Gentiles (non-Jew) are not God's people.

But Jews took it for granted and did all sorts of bad stuff, got exiled, etc. and when Jesus tried to point out the error of their ways, many didn't believe him.

So God opened up the doors to all Gentiles (non-Jews) and hence Christians came not just from Jews who believed but from all different mixes and races.

At least that's how I understood it.

im pretty sure you cant just 'become' a jew the same way you become a born again christian.
there is a whole process you have to go through in front of rabbis and essentially take a test.
i could be wrong.

He is probably pointing to the fact that is was unhealthy to eat such things in the past thus the rule was probably enstated for this reason... however, since better sanitary conditions this rule is no longer necessary... eh?

I assert if sanitary conditions today had existed back then the rule would not exist. It was meant to protect the Jewish people.
