just curious about seti and smp

Colt45

well im running seti on my celeron 400 right now, and its not very speedy at crankin' out the WU's (16 hrs.). I'm going to add another celeron 400 in a few days, and im curious if you can run multiple instances of seti on a smp machine, or do you have to spread it over the 2 cpu's?
which would give better preformance?

hopefully once i get my slockets ill be able to get them to do 400@600 and bring up the production a little bit.

well thanks for any info.

SETI isn't SMP compatible, so if you want to take advantage of multiple CPUs, you need to run 2 clients. You'll get a roughly 70% production increase.

If running only SETI, you have to run 2 instances on an SMP machine.

If you use SETIDRIVER with SETI cli, it will run 2 instances for you, and you can set processor affinity.

🙂
