It's been a few years since I built a new system so I finally broke down and ordered some parts. I have a 22" wide-screen LCD I will be reusing along with keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc. My old desktop is going to become my wife's PC and I will retire her current system.

I don't play many resource intensive games (mostly source games like CSS or TF2) but I do a fair ammount of virtualization so the extra speed from the CPU and memory will be welcome. Having CSS and TF2 run at more than 80 fps will be nice as well. 🙂

New System:
Antec Three Hundred Case ($69.95)
SeaSonic M12II SS-500GM PSU ($129.99)
ASRock P45Turbo ($99.99)
Intel E8400 ($169.99)
2x1GB G.SKILL DDR3-1333 ($89.99)
BFG 9800 GTX+ 512MB ($209.99)
WD RaptorX 150GB ($174.99)
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty ($105.99)

Old System:
Antec TX640B Case
Antec TP-II 550 PSU
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
AMD Opteron 185 @ 3.0 GHz
2x1GB Patriot DDR-400
Asus Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB
WD Raptor 74GB
Creative Audigy2 SE

Well you put your rig up here for review, and for your uses he's right. If all you play is Source engine games you could return the video card, eat whatever the restocking fee is at the retailer you used, and buy an 8800GT.

Edit: But I don't mean to sound like a sour puss, it's a nice computer and you'll enjoy it.

Yeah I'd have gotten a 500W Antec Earthwatts, a 3870 or 4850, swap the 150 raptor for a velociraptor, bumped up to 4GB instead of 2, not bought the X-Fi (not much better than onboard, if that).

That's just me. 🙂

I only play those games right now. Who knows what I will be doing in a year, two years?

Oh and I will enjoy the system alright. 😀
