I moved in 3 weeks ago and when I did the place was a complete disaster. I moved in because my friend also lives here and it is generally a nice place. The apartments are rather new, fully furnished and the rent is the right price. When I moved in the kitchen was a sticky greesy mess, the stove was filthy and the oven I won't even touch...I spent 2 hours the first day I moved in detailing the kitchen to avoid getting severely ill. I stated that I never wanted to see the kitchen that way again and have made an effort to make sure things get wiped up as quickly as possible. They didn't own a broom or mop or working vacuum so I went out and bought those items and swept and mopped the floors (except the bathrooms, that's their problem I'll go shit in the woods if it comes down to it.)

Today I asked for a bit of help moving the furniture so that I could throughly vacuum under everything to help my allergies as I've recently suffered from a URI and my room mate bailed on me went upstairs and locked himself in his room leaving me to move and vacuum everything on my own. Needless to say this pissed me strait the hell off. I finished what I had been doing, went up stairs and told him to go back down where I proceeded to yell at him for at least 5 minutes for being an inconsiderate little prick to which he replied "I don't care if I live in filth." Obviously not getting my message across I threw a beer at his head.

It is embarrassing to invite people over because the apartment is so disgusting and I don't want to be viewed as a disgusting person.

I know this isn't my personal blog, thanks for listening.

No I'm not going to "find new room mates" or "move out" I'm going to deal with this head on. I've tried to lead by example and that has had limited success.

Cliffs:
-Room mates are gross
-Been cleaning their shit up for the last 3 weeks
-Asked for some help and room mate locked self in room
-Bitched out room mate
-Threw beer at room mates head.

I think you had reason to be angry at them, but if that beer can actually hit your roommate's head and caused damage, then you'd be fucked.

glass bottle or aluminum can? full or empty?

Did you have fun cleaning the beer up after you threw it?

Might have knocked some sense in to him.

Full can of Budweiser (the only thing that shit is good for.)

BioKleen does wonders and Clorox ready-mop fixed the rest.

So let me get this straight: You moved in with these guys despite knowing it was a mess and the roomies had little interest in a clean place. You also knew your anal and would have trouble living in a filthy place. You immediately started making demands about cleanliness, and you clean up the place knowing damn well it wouldn't stay clean. You, being anal and can't understand why others are not, want to clean. Roomie does not share your anal concerns and goes up to his room while you clean.

...so you get violent and throw a beer can at his head? After berating him for five minutes about cleanliness in the place YOU JUST MOVED INTO?!!

Jesus, you are a DICK. I hope the the roomies get together and throw your ass out. You are a prick.

(I am anal about cleanliness too, but I'm not a dumbass)

ooo thanks for the advice on biokleen! I gotta check that out!

EDIT: but ya, I want to live in a clean place too, but my roommates and I sometimes live in filth. When it goes overboard, we go insane and clean the whole place up. We'll say afterwards "ok let's keep it this way." After saying that a dozen times over the past couple of years, it still gets a bit messy hahaha.

your roommates are as entitled not to clean up after themselves as you are to be neat.

If you have issues that require you needing help to move furniture because of allergies you can't expect anyone to really care unless they want to. Hire a service.

This.

While I don't blame you for wanting a clean place, you knew exactly what you were getting into when you moved into the place. Trying to change your roommates is fine, but being a dick and throwing a beer at your roomie....well if I was them I'd kick your ass to the curb. Tonight.

If it was messy when you moved in you should assume it'll stay that way. I'm afraid you're in the wrong here. You can't change the world, you and other roommate just don't mesh at all.

I don't understand the mentality of people who are so lazy like that, how they can live in filth

I didn't know the place was trashed until I was assigned the unit and started to move my shit in. (I had not visited the place my roomie just said that they needed another guy and I needed a place.) At that point I cleaned up and talked to my roomies about the state of things and was assured that efforts would be made, and to an extent they were. the kitchen has been kept relatively clean and things have been getting picked up. What got my goat is that I've been helping every day when they ask for it but the minute I ask for something they bail. Then when I confronted him about it he became belligerent and rude instead of saying "Hey dude, I see you're upset and I'm sorry that you feel that way."

As for being a Prick, dick and asshole. You bet. I can be the biggest asshole you'd ever meet, I can get people twisted, riled up and pissed off like no one I know. I can also be the best friend you'd ever have.

Thanks for passing final judgment on me there GOD, you're pearly gates need a polishing.

As for forced relocation, none of us can kick any other person out, we have to go before the college tribunal and state our cases and that takes at least a month. As me and my roomie sit on the tribunal I find it unlikely that I'll be on the streets any time soon.

If I wanted to hit him in the head with the beer I wouldn't be typing this right now.

They can live in a garbage dump if they wish, I don't care what their room looks like as long as it doesn't cause a smell that impacts my living environment. That does not entitle them to force me to wade through trash to cook a meal or watch TV.

If our friendship was that fragile I would not have moved in with the guy.

Easy solution: ask roommates if they'll pitch in for a maid service.. they're mostly inexpensive and you won't have to clean up their filth.

If me and my girlfriend only argued once every 3 weeks I'd be in paradise. The only place I feel I was wrong was when I sent the carbonated projectile his direction.

If he wanted you to get kicked out sooner, I'm betting he could.

You'd be surprised at how fast the cogs turn at a college when the words "assault" "safety" and "liability" are used in the same sentence.

Yeah I need to look in to that, the apartment complex offers one but they only do the bedrooms and vacuum the common area's the next service I looked at after that was $25 a week. It is much cheaper if we all just spent 15min a day and straitened things up. I even offered when I moved in that if they paid me 10 bucks a week each I'd clean and they'd never hear a word from me ;).

Too bad your roommate/friend is too stupid to call the cops and charge you with assault w/ deadly weapon.

YABFT. Yet Another Back Fire Thread.
