Just changed my plug wires for the first time, important question

The plastic guides that held the old wires are too small to hold these new ones, and there's not much clearance where the 2 and 3 wires come out. Will direct contact with the exhaust manifold or cylinder head damage the boots or wires? They're some generic brand from Autozone, and they have "high temperature silicon" printed on them.

If this is a problem, what should I do about it? How long could I drive my car before damage occurred? The parts store is about seven minutes away. Thanks in advance!

Zip ties will do. I had mine replaced by a shop as I had a misfire occur when visiting relatives in another town. Needless to say, I didn't have the tools with me to do the job. The mechanic didn't route the wires properly, and one ended up loose next to the manifold. I didn't notice that until the plugwire had melted on one side and was visibly arcing to the manifold. It didn't hurt it, but I don't think that its necessarily safe to drive in that condition.

Wow, arcing to the manifold? That sounds scary. I'm glad I checked here too...the dude at Autozone told me they wouldn't melt. I'll definitely get it taken care of. Thanks folks!

Autozone will have the plastic guides (wire separators) for your new wires. Only a few bucks but well worth it. Just look for the size you need..prolly 8mm.
