Just called the police for my first time (not that exciting)

Update: I found this which may be his case: http://www.chicagocrime.org/2007/nov/03/5am/hn686334/

The date, time and location all fit well. If it is his case then the way I figure it, he was walking through the alley (not uncommon) and got beat up, then walked north up the alley and went to the door of the closest apartment building (mine), and rang the first buzzer (mine).

I added a diagram to illustrate my theory: http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/sm8000/map.jpg
-------------------------
A little before 5am this morning (Central time) my apartment buzzer rang. I got up and hit the Talk button and asked who it was. The response was mumbled in Spanish. I figured he must want my neighbors across the hall who are Hispanic, so I told him their last name and he buzzed them.

Before long he buzzed me again, so I decided (riskily) to see what he wanted. I put on some trunks, and in their pockets stashed my keys and my cell phone. I walked all the way down the stairs (I'm on the 3rd floor, no elevator) and went to the front door.

I saw a diminutive young Hispanic man, maybe my age, crying and bleeding from the mouth. His lower lip was swollen and crusted with blood. He apologized, told me he knew very little English, and said something about his house and his money. He also said something about the police. I took out my cell phone and asked him if he'd like me to call the police, he said yes.

I called 311 and told them what was going on, and advised them that they'd need a Spanish speaker too. While we waited the man at the door showed me he'd been kicked in the head, I went back up and brought him two Tylenols, a bottle of water and a paper towel.

The police showed up before long, the driver started speaking to him on the sidewalk and his partner approached me. I explained that the man rang my buzzer, and had asked me to call the police. He said, "OK, we'll take care of it."

I went back upstairs, and through a slightly open window I could hear a conversation down at ground level. I didn't listen to it or think much about it until I heard the rumble of a diesel engine. I looked out the window and saw an ambulance arrive.

So a few minutes ago the police cruiser left, along with an ambulance with that guy inside. I'll probably never know what went down, but at least I was able to help someone (I think?). Just wish I wasn't hung over.

Good thing you answered the door!

11:30 last night I heard a knocking on mine. I was in the basement working and ignored it (wondering wtf could that be). It happened again. I had only an exacto knife at my desk and pair of scissors but I decided to check it weaponless. It was my neighbor--interior light left on in my van hehe

That was nice of you - I'm pretty sure 99% of people wouldn't have done that. Most would have been intimidated by the fact the guy only spoke Spanish to them, and also would have been afraid to go down.

10/10!

Thanks for the kudos. After he buzzed the neighbor and then buzzed me again, I figured this was either a prank, or he was drunk, maybe both. I was apprehensive so I did my best to keep my wits about me. When he said 'police' and I offered to call and he nodded yes, I was glad I had answered.

You did a good thing. A lot of people wouldn't have helped and would want nothing to do with the situation.

Sounds like a clockwork orange...I'd have been slightly more skeptical of some Spanish guy ringing my doorbell of all the apartments, especially since you live on the 3rd floor.

Missed witnessing a murder by about twenty seconds. Called 911 while the guy died in front of me.

Apparently he was a drug dealer who got murdered by another drug dealer who drove up to him in a stolen cab, shot him three times and drove away quietly. I didn't hear the cab at all.

About 4 years ago when I was a senior in high school, my friend came to me at break, pale as a ghost. I asked him what the hell was wrong with him and he said him and his friend were up in the hills smoking a bowl when they noticed there was a burnt, dead body laying 20 feet in front of them. I told him, "what the fuck are you doing here then? You sure you aren't just really high? You need to call the cops if you swear what you saw was true." He told me he was afraid that the cops might bust him for ditching school and smoking, but I said that is the least of his worries....someone could of saw you guys out there and mistaken you for the killer. So after school I gave him a call to see if he had called the police yet. He told me no, I cant. So I said get the fuck over here I'll call for you. So we make the call...immediately the cop drives us to the crime scene and sure enough there was a dead body. Man all hell broke loose after that. Tons of patrol cars and detectives rolled in, news choppers flying over head. Turns out the body was a guy my age from a different high school. I guess he got caught up in some love triangle and one of the girls decided to have him offed. Pretty damn sad.

The first time I called the cops was in January when the neighbors below me and some people in another building were outside screaming obscenities at each other. The people from the other building were shooting fireworks at the apartment below me, and one went inside their apartment, apparently. Another one almost hit my window.

I called the cops and they said they were already on their way. I want to live on a mountain peak. :p

i was pulling out of my driveway and i was waiting for the traffic to subside.. the street has 3 lanes, one in each direction, and the middle as a turn lane... one guy was in the middle lane about to turn into the gas station at the end of the block.. this nissan comes screaming around the corner into the middle lane, he almost runs into the guy waiting to turn, but he swerves.. unfortunately into the wrong lane into oncoming traffic..

he swerves into the parked cars, a truck slams into his passenger side.. i stare in disbelief for a couple seconds... cars are mangled, smoke.. screams... i call the police, and as i'm talking to the dispatcher, i see the driver of the nissan running down the street!! some people are trying to stop him, he takes a swing at one of them and takes off down a side street.. i tell the dispatcher where he went, and within minutes, 3 cop cars are on the scene, one takes off down the street after the guy. i don't know if they caught him or not. i stuck around and gave them my statement... it was freakin surreal

My buzzer is the very first, at the top of the list. I live in a 3-floor building.

I'll keep an eye on the local paper websites for the police blotter, I remember his name (Ever Rosado) so if it's posted I'll update with a link.

The last time I called the police was when a head-on collision unfolded one car ahead of me on highway 28. Two trucks (an 84 ford f150 and a 91 ford f250) hit each other going 60+. A 17 year old kid was driving the 84 and a 26 year old construction worker (company truck) was driving the 91. I was the first one on scene (because no-one would get the fvck out of their cars). A state patrol officer arrived as I was trying to talk to the construction worker. His gas tank had been punctured and was leaking onto the pavement and my feet (which I didn't realize until a fellow driving by made clear by yelling at me). I'd seen a few accidents in my time but this one was just horrible and raw (this happened about 4 months ago).

Called the cops a couple of weeks ago because the DOUCHES that live underneath us love to blast their music randomly at 2-3 AM and I've got a fucking 8 AM class every morning. About 5 minutes later I can hear from my own apartment some loud banging on the door, cops tell them to STFU, and no music ever again. And they all lived happily ever after.

I can't remember the first time. The last time was at a Walmart in North Dallas about a month ago. About 9pm at night, dark in the parking lot, I had just finished putting my stuff in the trunk, and I was parked pretty far away from everyone, when some guy comes around the corner of a minivan about 15 feet away waving a screw driver and speaking loudly in spanish, looking right at me. I told him to stop, and put my hand up in the classic "stop" position. Anyway, without going through the various warnings I gave him, he didn't stop until I had drawn my sidearm, at which point he skittered in the other direction. So I call 911, get connected to Dallas dispatch and tell them, "There's a guy here at the Walmart on Coit, yelling in spanish and waving a screw driver around. I nearly shot him." Dispatcher says, "Has anyone been shot? Is anyone hurt?" I say, "No, everyone's fine, I'm leaving now." She says, "Sir, this is the emergency number, I can give you the non-emergency number if you'd like to make a report."

If he's an illegal immigrant (highly possible with his lack of the skill to speak English), then I am totally against this person being sent to the hospital
and using my tax money for his healthcare even though he didn't pitch in.
It was nice of you though to have done this for him since it looks like he was in some pretty deep crap

I had to call the cops in 4th grade because a bull was loose on a road and charged our car. We live in the boonies and will driving to school a bull that had gotten loose 2 miles away is running down the middle of the road. This was one of those bulls that if you hit it at sixty in a car the bull would be the one walking away. When we got a hold of the police they thought it was a prank call because we didn't have the cell phone number(and we said there was a bull in the middle of the road) and it took a couple of tries to actually get someone to listen. Pretty funny now but was scary as hell at the time

Don't start this.

He wanted the cops called, which few illegals would. If he's illegal, he'll get deported after this, which should make you happy.

And illegals who work pay taxes just like everyone else.

The first time I called the cops was when I went down to the carport to go to work, and found it empty one morning.

let's be realistic here. he wouldn't get deported as ICE doesn't communicate with local law enforcement, and vice versa...this is a major problem that needs to be fixed. There are always reports in the news of illegals who murdered somebody, come to find out they were arrested previously and never deported(Jose Carranza anyone?). Even if it takes getting arrested to get deported(which rarely happens), this guy wouldn't have been deported as he wouldn't have been arrested in the first place. Plus with the deal in New York where illegals can legally obtain driver's licenses they're basically being assimilated anyway.

While there is some truth to that, I think our own inner city citizens are far more dangerous then illegals. Just look at Philly and Baltimore this year. Those cities have about 300 murders each just in the past year. I think Philly has like 335 or something already.

As far as legality goes, he showed me a state ID which is why I know his name. Not sure if illegals can stop by the DMV and pick one up.

Illegals are known to use fake identification. they do this, especially with social security card, to get jobs

that said, counterfeit identification won't be necessary if the trend in new york spreads to other states
