Ok, I just built a system w/ an X2 4800 and an A8N premier board. Its watercooled and the chip never gets past 37 degrees Celsius, so I know its running cool. I have a 7800 GTX and no overclocking on anything. My problem is that when I run 3dmark 03, as soon as it gets to the "CPU test" the screen freezes, also it did this to me when I switched to the options screen in far cry. Any suggestions? I am running x64 windows and I have all the x64 updated drivers as well. Also, why does my computer not immediatly go to the windows boot screen? It HANGS FOREVER on the "asus" boot screen, then another screen showing the IRQ's, then I have to type a damned password for administrator in order to get to windows? I HAVE A X2 4800, and my centrino laptop boots faster. ANy suggestions? THANK YOU in advance, I know this is alot.

Have you turned off all OC options in your BIOS ? If not, it will automatically try to OC your System whether you want to or not - could cause problems.

SATA Drive ? Depending on type, there may be some settings you may need to change for the slow boot, or it may even be another issue related to the above mentioned Auto-OC'ing.

I also believe there's an AMD X2 patch you need, otherwise you can have issues. I'm not sure what they are as I don't have an X2, but I've seen it mentioned on the boards here.

It would also help to know exactly what Hardware and setup you have.

Hopefully there's something here that will get you going in the right direction.

How do I turn off OC options, I thought I went through all the options in the BIOS. maybe not....

Can anyone tell me the X2 patch?? The Mobo box said it supported X2--so I thought I wouldn't need a patch -- I updated the BIOS from 1008 to 1009 as well, and updated chipset to 6.65 before I updated BIOS

my setup: AMD X2 4800+
1 gig DDR 400 OCZ TITANIUM Ram - 1 stick, no dual channel yet
160 gig Western Digital IDE hard drive
Sony DVD/RW+- IDE
NO SATA YET
BFG 7800 GTX OC - pre overclocked
Thermaltake Bigwater water cooler
Coolmax CX-Series 600 watt PSU
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS soundcard (was not yet installed when I had the problem

In BIOS, Set Max Memclock to DDR400 (if you're not OC'ing), set Overclock Profile to Manual, CPU frequency I'd set to 201 instead of 200 (something I recall about locking the bus), set Overclock Options to Disable, and set NOS to Disable.

I may be missing one, but can't think of it right off.

Also I'd set your PCI Clock Synchronization to 33.33MHz. BTW- what PCI type cards are you running ?

For the X2 patch, you may want to do a search on X2 or 3800, 4200, 4400, 4600(?), or 4800 and look through the threads about the patch.

only PCI cards I have are: BFG 7800 GTX OC - PCI X16 -- and Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS regular PCI -- thats all -- I might put a wireless card in it in the future, thats about it

What slot is your SB in ?

If it's in the first PCI slot you may be getting a Resource (IRQ) conflict with your Video Card. I know this was an issue on the older SBs, not sure about the newer ones.

Definitely lock your PCI Sync to 33.33MHz, otherwise the PCI devices will try to track either the CPU or HTT bus frequency. Not really a problem unless you start OC'ing, but better safe than sorry.

thank you, I also saw something in the BIOS -- Under "PCIPnP" then "Init Display First" which "detects which graphics controller to use as the primary boot device" this is set to PCI and the only other option is PCI-E, should I set it to PCI-E since thats what my GPU is?? Or am I totally off?

also - should I disable my AC97 audio - it is enabled right now - sinced I am running the soundblaster card? or are they two totally different things? You would have never guessed I built this system on my own with all these questions I am asking.....thank you again for your patience

NOTE -- I am running 64-BIT WINDOWS (windows XP pro x64) I don't think those patches would work for my windows, for the X2 processor

Yes, set it to PCI-ex.

When I was first setting mine up I had it boot once and try to output Video to the PCI card - I don't have a PCI VC, so no Video

Luckily I was able to recover after fooling around with things a bit .

Bottom slot should be okay, and definitely disable On-board sound.

Don't feel bad about asking all the questions - how do you think I learned so much about this MB ;)

I had plenty of headaches with my first one and trying to get on OLD SBLive! to work.

I'm not running 64bit OS as I'm still a bit leary about the support for it, so I don't know what to tell you on that account.
