Hi everyone. I just built a new desktop. I'm pretty sure I've setup everything correctly. When I press the power button, power lights turn on, all the fans turn on, optical drives open and close, but I'm getting no post, no beeps, and there are several led lights lit up on the motherboard. The lights are solid, and don't flash at all or change color. I've checked several times that the ram sticks are in the right slots, and I've also tried each stick on its own. No difference.

I then tried disconnecting all peripherals, removed all ram sticks, and still no beeps or changes in the led lights on the motherboard. I've connected both the 24-pin atx and the 2x4pin 12v. I've also tried just a 4pin in the 12v. Still nothing.

No clue what the problem is. Any ideas? Here's the hardware I'm working with:

Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80601950

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ (9-9-9-24)

SAPPHIRE 100283-3L Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

The PSU is an Antec Truepower 650W from my last tower. It was working fine as far as I know.

Thanks in advance.

I know this is a dumb question, but are you sure the mobo speaker is connected, and correctly?

I spent a few hours once wondering what the hell was wrong with a motherboard before realising it had no speaker - plugged one in, got a 'bad RAM' beep, replaced the RAM, machine worked. *shrug*

Just a thought :)

Start at the beginning. Do a minimal install of one stick of ram and GPU outside the box. This will eliminate any possibility of the MB shorting against the case. Make sure the one stick of ram is in the correct slot for that configuration. Make sure your case connectors are properly oriented to pin one (look for the little triangle and don't depend on the cable labels for this). If it posts, wash, rinse, repeat with another stick of ram, HDD, etc. If not, try the another stick of ram.
I don't see your specific ram on the QVL which may or may not cause a problem.

I looked at the manual about them earlier but it wasn't much help to me. Maybe this will mean more to you guys:

The lights that are lit up are the Phase LEDs from top to bottom Red-Red-Yellow-Yellow-Green-Green.

Phase LED: "The number of lighted LED's indicates the CPU loading. The hight the CPU loading, the more the number of lighted LED's."

Additionally both the NB Phase LED's and/or the DDR Phase LED's are lit (It looks like there is one set of LED's in that location, but its hard to tell from the manual if these are separate). From top to bottom they are yellow-green-yellow-green.

NB phase led: "The number of lighted LEDs indicates the North Bridge loading. The higher the North Bridge loading, the more the lighted LEDs."

DDR Phase LED: "The number of lighted LEDs indicates the memory. The higher the memory loading, the more the number of lighted LEDs."

Update: Hey guys, I took the motherboard out of the case and rebuild from scratch. I don't know what did it but this time I got beeps, different LED lights, video, and was able to get into BIOS! Will continue testing with other RAM but at least I know its working! Thanks again for the help! I'll let you know how it goes.

That'd be a short with the case then, or some other simple electrical fault.

Is this your first build? If so, go back to the basics and find a good guide to building first, and when you put it back in the case make sure you get all the little spacers and thermal paste/adhesive etc in all the right places and none of the wrong places.
