Just built my C2D machine

Well, the new machine is built, and so far so good. I'm running at stock speeds right now until I know the system as a whole is sound, and then I'll probably go up to 2.66, but no more than that. Only thing I've changed is I bumped the RAM to 1066MHz, since I paid the money for the speed on the RAM. I'm using the stock Intel HSF, though I took off their thermal goop and put a thin layer of AS3 on instead.

Anyway, the BIOS monitor is showing my CPU temp at more or less a steady 38C. Seems about right. This is the case whether it's idling or whether I just ran a bunch of benchmarks (though it would have had a bit of time to cool).

Anyway, I downloaded RMClock, as it was recommended for accurate core temps in the OCing sticky, and it's showing me at 29C on Core 0 and 30C on Core 1. Wasn't expecting that with the stock HSF....can these be right? Of course, under full load, it goes up a ton. Running Orthos on the small FFTs pushed each core to 46C, but that's still pretty low from what I've seen with the stock HSF. The case has good airflow with a 120mm intake and 120mm exhaust, plus the PSU 120mm exhaust, and the CPU has an air vent in the side panel to suck directly from outside.

Just seeing if these temps are real...if so...sweet!

Really good but in the range of normal for a stock 2.13ghz, the temps go up quickly when you overclock C2D's. If you crank it up to 3ghz or above you can add 15c or maybe more to those temps.

With my E6400 I ran it for a few months on the stock HSF and I could overclock to 2.8ghz with reasonable temps, but I wasn't comfortable running it over 3ghz 24/7 until I got a good aftermarket HSF.

I have the e6600 and q6600 processors, and one of them may get passed on as an Xmas present.

I was able to get the load temps on the e6600 @ 3.35 Ghz down to around 45C at 73F room-ambient. On the Q6600 @ 3.0 Ghz (multiplier 9), the temperatures at 73F are approximately 54C under 2xORTHOS load, and about the same with multiplier 8 and 2.88Ghz -- under the same room-ambient.

But for how I got my temperatures to peg at or below 57C with 2xORTHOS at a room-ambient of 80F, some may not think it's worth the trouble, and they may prefer to water-cool instead.

Your temps are wrong. Add 15C and you have an accurate picture. No C2D runs at 45C under Orthos on the stock cooler, overclocked or not.
