I just finished building my first PC. It's an Athlon 64 3000 (Newcastle), 512 mushkin pc-3200 ram, MSI K8T Neo Platinum Mobo. Anyway, I have a WD 80 gig hard drive, a DVD-RW and a CD-RW. I put the HD in the IDE 1 slot (that's what's recommended) and have the cd-rw/dvd-rw on the second slot. THe cd-rw is the slave. As of now, it hasn't been recognized during bios setup (i went ahead and installed the OS anyway), but how would I set the jumpers to make it a slave?

It's a samsung model cd-rw 52/32/52 (not sure about the 32 rewrite speed).

Oh yes, and when I get a new video card (using my Geforce 4 Ti4400 until Hl2 comes out and prices on current cards fall), I plan to o'clock, what's a heat sink/fan and CPU paste that you guys recommend?

Thanks a bunch

I was having a problem with only one of my CD drives being detected at a time, it turned out to be a bad IDE cable.
For CD drives, I usually go easy on myself and put both drives on CS (Cable Select). This helps with jumper headaches for drives that don't need to particularily be in a certain master/slave configuration.

As far as paste goes, I like the Arctic Silver Ceramique, I have heard that it is just as good (and in some cases better) than AS3. More importantly (for me anyways), it is NON CONDUCTIVE. Which is teh w1nz if (when) you accidentally drip some on a surface that you probably shouldn't have dripped on.

I'm not familiar with your particular brand burner, but on the drives I have worked with there are 3 sets of jumper pins. Looking at the back of the drive starting from left to right it should be Master, Slave, and Cable Select.

hope this helps
