Just built a P4 2 gig system, what are your recommendations for tweaks?

Here's the specs:

P4 2 gig (256 cache)
512 mb Kingston (2x256)
Intel D850MVL

I've put on a fresh install of XP Pro.

What are your recommendations for tweaks to this system?

Thanks in advance.

Not really much you can do with an Intel Motherboard as far as tweaks go. I guess just sit back and enjoy your inevitable stable system.

Can I ask why you didn't get a Northwood 2.0? The one with 512KB cache?

Because of price, I got this cpu/mb/ram combo for 380 dollars here on the for sale forums.

Eventually I'll upgrade to a northwood chip, but it'll be a while.

Intel? Well what you see is what you get. As for the willemette prosser, I had one on my asus p4t-e and it worked well. Now I Have the Northwood 2.2GHz. (expensive hobby ya know!) Overclocking was very easy. It could only get it (the willimette) up to 115MHz on the FSB though ( X4). As for the Northwood, I got it up to 120MHz FSB. If you want to cool it down a bit, try looking into a better HS/F as I did. When you do get the Northwood CPU, you will be much happier. The results are noticable. Enjoy! 😎My Rigs

Keep in mind he is running an intel mobo, so your comments about your personal experience and fsb mean nothing to him.

I'm using the Intel system monitor software, and it's reporting 32 degrees C at rest and around 42 at load for the processor, slightly lower for the system. Is this normal? I have a thermaltake HSF with AS2 between it and the chip (not much, a thin layer).

When I say "at load", I mean after 2-4 hours of intense FPS gaming with all visual details at max and 1280x1024 res.

Thanks!
