2,700?

i would have went for 4GB and another HDD if i knew i was spending that much. seems like a lot of money.

looks good other than the pricetag though.

Hard to gauge without knowing how much you spent on each individual item. Plus it would've been nice if you posted brief descriptions (i.e. we don't need to know it is 0.8mm cold rolled steel), and left out miscellaneous things (i.e. keyboard, mouse, artcic silver) unless it impacts the cost considerably.

But it looks like you have a 6600, 2GB, 8800GTX with LCD for $2700. I'm thinking that's too much money, but otherwise it should be a great performer.

Price adds up because of all the little things I'm buying. It's a brand new PC system from scratch...not transferring over any used parts from an old system. Keyboard, mouse, dvd/cd drive, windows xp, etc...adds up.

We're saying it isn't a great bang-for-the-buck build. It will perform well, but you could've possibly gotten similar performance at a lower cost.

But if you have the cash to spend and aren't worried about bang-for-buck, then great build. I have a very similar build (x1900XT graphics instead of your 8800GTX), and it runs excellent. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Yes...
Crucial Ballistix 2 x 1GB PC2 6400 4-4-4-12, 2.2V = $289.99
G.Skill 2 x 1GB PC2-6400 4-4-4-12, 2.0-2.1v = $230 shipped

BFG Tech GeForce 8800GTX = $599.99
I hope you got the $50 rebate

SeaSonic S12 Energy Plus SS-650HT 650W = $159.99 😱
Enermax Liberty 620W = $115 (AR)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz = $317.00
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz (Conroe stripped down to Allendale) = $219.50 OC'd 15% :thumbsup::laugh:

Tuniq Tower CPU Cooler isn't really necessary unless you are overclocking. The stock-coolers are usually fine otherwise.

A little expensive on the RAM - maybe get looser timings -- something like THIS that only costs $208.

$600 for the 8800GTX is too much for my taste. I usually try to spend $400 (or less) on the video card unless it's some revolutionary technology.

Finally, I'd never spend $65 on a keyboard, nor $35 on a mouse pad, personally.

Definitely plan on overclocking. That's why I got the Tuniq Tower and also why I got the Crucial Ballistix that comes with D9 Micron chips.

There were some cheaper 8800GTX's, but I went with BFG because of the lifetime warranty and quality reputation.

Are you a gamer? Just curious what keyboard/mouse do you use?

Keep in mind, I'm not ridiculing you. I stated that if you have the money to spend, then more power to you. You really will enjoy it, and it sounds like a very fast system. But it still isn't a bang-for-buck system... that's all I'm saying. You chose the latest, high-end video card, one of the best LCD monitors available, and a gaming keyboard with some $35 mousepad. These are great purchases if you can afford them... but they aren't "value" buys.

I do game on occasion. I use a $15 keyboard I bought at CompUSA a long time ago. And I wasn't berating your 'mouse' choice... I said I wouldn't spend $35 on a mouse 'pad'.

But this is all personal preference. If you're happy with your choices that's all that matters. Like I said, if you aren't worried about the few hundred extra you're spending, then you have a great build.

Are you going to send parts back @ 15% restocking charge or just stay with what you've bought?

Overall I think thats a sweet looking setup, just seems high but you have everyhting included.
I'm looking into building pretty much the same setup, board, cpu and memory.
Ya could have saved 40bux buyin memory from zipzoomfly.com w/rebate
I also chose the SeaSonic PSU, to me personally, xtra money for SeaSonic is well spent, much better than Enermax.
Hope it all goes well....enjoy

How set are you on that monitor? Because you could really save a lot of money in that category and still get a very high quality display.

The Dell 20.1" for example. It is half the price, and just as good minus the gloss.

EDIT: If you are going to be using either of those displays, then an 8800GTX is going to be overkill for 1680x1050. You could get the GTS instead, and save another $200. Those two things alone could bring the build down almost $500.

Well I personally say it's a great set up. If I had that money, I would have probably added another HD and maybe gone with 4GB of RAM, but that is stuff you can upgrade to in the future. More power to you. Great system. And definitely the E6600 over the E6400.....

The LCD is very expensive for a 20" and the 8800GTX is a complete waste with only a 20" display. I would either 1) get a less expensive 20" LCD display and an 8800GTS video card (or something even cheaper) or 2) a significantly larger LCD display.

I don't understand why people keep saying an 8800GTX is a complete waste on a 20" LCD. Why would he want to buy less so that when the next best game come out he has to turn down his settings?

I think he should stick with the 8800GTX, but get a 24" monitor or other size that supports at least 1920x1200 resolution.

When the next best game comes out, the GTS is still going to be able to play it with all setting on high at 1680x1050. With video cards, it makes more sense to buy something that will play current/soon to be launched games (within a year or so) at high settings, and then upgrade every 12-18 months.

In two years, or even 18 months, however, neither the GTS or the GTX will be able to play new games at the highest settings, so he will have to upgrade.

So the GTS makes a lot more sense in price/performance terms, since video cards are never future proof.

I don't know how good the prices you got are (since i'm not from US), but i can  pretty much all your components 😀

Nice choices.

I'd ignore the the trolls here who like inferior product, especially those telling you that the monitor you bought is to expensive.

That NEC is basically the best quality LCD a person can buy

ROFL @ the comment of the Dell being the same w/o the gloss.

It's not the best price, but most ppl here are broke and need to save every dollar. They are all good componants, and that's what you should be happy with. Looks likes a very nice system. 🙂 I usually spend more money on my systems then the average ATer.

FYI: I would not ever ask any money opinions on theese forums.
