last year i bought a 21inch gateway and it was garbage...this thing is so clear and crisp. The colors are truly amazing. No dead pixels so far, and world of warcraft looks amazing as well.

Other users out there, what are your calibration settings? Any hints or tips to give me? Id like to set this up for perfect color.

EDIT...oooh wait there is major gradient banding in the picture modes other than standard :/

You probably have the dynamic contrast on. Turn this off and gradients smooth out a lot. Also check what mode you're in. I personally did not like the dynamic contrast at all and left it off all the time (I thought it looked bad on movies and games as well). There was some other thing that I found would cause banding but I can't remember what it was. It was definitely a much better display than the 21" Gateway.

There will be banding in anything except the Standard DV mode. The other ones aren't worth it if you have decent settings. Give them a try and you will never go back to the other DV modes. I also have brighter calibrated settings (200 nits) if you want them.

So true. ONLY use Standard mode and you should be fine. Turn Advanced DV mode on, also. The 'N' color temp setting should be good enough if you don't have some kind of calibrating hardware.

EDIT: xtknight I'm trying your settings...seem interesting, however I don't notice much difference

i cant find the gamma settings in the LCD menu, and what is expansion? it says for me to see manual? Im using Nvidia control panel to adjust settings...is that not so good? Also...from the last LCD i owned i thought i saw an adapter (monitor scaling menu?) where i could change it to graphics card or something...where did that menu go?

EDIT

The sRGB setting seems a little off compared to the "3" setting. The colors seem wierd.

Also, i cant tell if its my eyes, but to me it seems like the picture is shifting from cool to warm colors (slightly) every so often. (i turned it on about an hour ago)

EDIT

using this test i found that i cant see anything until 12,12,12 http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/Calibration/monitor_black.htm

should that be fixed somehow?

I'm having a hard time with your settings and ICM profile, xt. I think it's prob cos of crossfire -- in AFR mode each frame is rendered with different gamma settings...

That's interesting. But not surprising, as video manufacturers have never cared about color correction that much.

The correction really won't work for games anyhow since they set their own gamma 99% of the time. You can prevent Q3 engine games from doing it by setting r_ignorehwgamma 1. Still, the game's textures were made with its gamma in mind, so it's rather pointless for games.

It is great for the desktop, general usage, and photo editing. Multimedia can benefit depending on whether you use overlay mode or VMR (it works in VMR only).

The 20WGX2's gamma settings are in the 'RGB' section of the OSD. You shouldn't use the NVIDIA control panel at all (leave those all at default and adjust everything at the LCD level). Otherwise, you risk losing colors.

You can fix that issue by using my calibrated settings above. That test is flawed anyhow (it uses odd dithery patterns which might make you think your monitor is dithering). Use the dark grayscale test in my sig.

You can choose whether to have the graphics card or monitor scale it by going into the NVIDIA control panel under advanced refresh rate settings.

The sRGB may seem 'off', but it's the most accurate you're going to get out of the stock settings.

Those are the gamma settings. ;) You can make user adjustments to them too. You should be able to change 1,2,3,5 by pressing the down and then right on the wheel.

Nice monitor. I'm considering getting it for my new computer. It is expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for. Can any of you make a suggestion for a monitor of the same size and good for gaming, but a little less expensive?

ViewSonic VX2025WM (if you can find it), LG L204WT, Samsung 205BW. The Samsung 215TW is great but it has input lag issues which may annoy you in gaming (and general usage). Some people have no issue with it.

Could a 6600GT run this thing in games. I know I want to get a 7950 GT. Just curious.
