It is the same difference between a walmart mountain bike and a bike that will actually be used in the mountains.

Walmart cues are for someone who wants to have a cue in case they need it.

The beginner cues are for someone who has played pool for some time and wants to get more serious about the game.

Something shiny. it has to be really shiny. ;)

But if you have a good pool hall or store near you, just go in there and make some friends...test out some different cues, learn what's good, what's bad, and what you like/dislike. Learn what the differences are, and what type of cue will be best for your game. Basically, it all just comes down to whichever cue you feel the most comfortable with.

Unless you turn pro...then you have to get the purty and shiny cues. :D

I would call Greg at Billiard Warehouse and ask this exact question. He was really very helpful. The first question he asked me was what my budget was and he stuck in it totally.
