in brazil buying a car is pretty expensive because people make less and cars cost more and stuff like leasing has only started to happen recently... anyway i've been wanting to get a bike for ages and i finally saved up enough and bought it this week!

(mine's black)

It's a 2005 Yamaha TDM 225... i'm not sure if this model exists overseas.... they stopped making it in 2005 so i got the last year... its only got 6,000km on it too so it's pretty much new!

i'm pretty stoked, i'm gonna pick it up tomorrow! 😀

Nah but seriously thats a nice little bike? What size engine? is that 225? Or not related?

she will be mine... oh yes... she will be mine! 😀

its a 225 engine and from what i hear its toe-to-toe with most 250's out there... it's my first bike so i figure its a perfect fit! in são paulo where i live its pretty dangerous too cause there's so many other cars and bikes on the road and this one is pretty agile... 🙂

yeah wear a helmet + leathers, even on short rides. I know that sucks but you are stupid not too. Motorcycles = donorcycles. There are 2 kinds of donorcycle riders, those who have crashed and those who will. Just remember that every time you get on the bike.

I don't know what the statistics are like overseas, but here the VAST majority of motorcycle accidents are the rider's fault, either by going way too fast or riding under the influence, and most of the rest are preventable.

Are they more dangerous than cars? Yes. Will a responsible rider be able to ride for years and year without incident? Very probably. Flying a private plane is more dangerous once you take responsibility into account.

But hey, if you just want to persist in your flawed assumptions, be my guest.

Hey alex, check out the Advrider forums, they're a pretty good resource IMHO.

Congrats! I just bought my first bike last month. 06 HD 1200 Sportster custom. Love it. But make sure you watch out for the idiots. They surely don't watch out for you.

Ride safe...

the for the advice!
i'm not sure about overseas in general but really Brazil is quite unique when it comes to motorcycles... specially in São Paulo... due to the sheer amount of people and poorly planned and implemented road infra-structure there's constantly massive traffic jams. i've lived in canada and i don't mean what they call traffic jams. i mean like over 30km of cars one after the other that just don't move for extended periods of time... it's pretty unnerving. because of that there's a lot of motorcycle delivery people that get small 125 & 150cc bikes and ride like maniacs cause they are on a tight schedule and will get their asses handed to them if they're late.
90% of all motorcycles on the road fit that description. so it's really pretty unique and kinda scary at first but i've always wanted to ride and i'm 23 and just simply can't afford a car, even a cheap junkbox and motorcycles are so much cheaper so it's the way to go!
i bought some nice leathers and gloves and rain boots yesterday and my dad is lending me one of his helmets for the time being.

needless to say i'm kinda worried/scared because of the statistics, like at least 1 biker gets killed per day in the city but i figure i just gotta be responsible and watch out for idiots!

i'll post pics whenever i get 'em (the one in the 1st post is generic...)
