Got the Sony KDF-E42a10 form Circuit City. It's a 3 panel lcd. I can't wait tohave it deliv.

I've never looked much at LCD tvs, mostly because they're way out of my price range, so maybe I'm missing something. what's the picture like? I've got a tv tuner in my PC, and a 17" NEC LCD. At full screen it's watchable, but it's awful soft.

and just so I can fit in: No big HD-TV here, but a friend of mine just got a good deal on a 50-something inch RCA HDTV. Had that delivered last week, and today he and I went out and bought a reciever and some speakers to go along with it (he had no clue what he was looking for 😛)

yeah i just checked that myself. I think i would still go with the dlp personally.

Sorry to bump this thread, but Zorro, how do you like your new Sony? I've started researching HDTVs, and I've focused mostly on DLP-based sets. Unfortunately, Samsung's 42-inch offering (HL-R4266W) doesn't fare too well on AVS Forum (they almost universally recommend stepping up to the Samsung 46-inch HL-R4667W or bigger).

I hadn't really considered an LCD Projection model, but everyone seems to be raving about the Sony A10. The price is right too (actually cheaper than many of the DLPs I've found). How has your experience been?

For those saying they're looking at dlps vs lcds, is it mainly because of the soft black levels from the LCDs? When I compare the two, there isn't a lot of diff. between the two.

DLPs are generally more well-regarded when it comes to black levels, although there is some dispute as to how accurate those black levels are (e.g. dark shadows indistinguishable from "true black").

Sony's new LCD models supposedly have truer black levels than before, bringing them closer to DLP. They also don't suffer from the "rainbow effect" that some DLP owners can see.

i agree. I wouldn't trade my RPCRT for anything. I got the Tosh 51H84 on sale and haven't looked back. It looks as good or better than most LCD RP. They just have to be converged right.

you got a dlp, not an LCD. BIG difference!

If you're referring to the OP, Sony doesn't make a DLP model. The one he purchased is an LCD Projection.

My brother has this one. Very nice, just moved house and it broke though. Makes a really high pitch noise and its going to cost $800 to fix it, needs a new PCB for the power supply apparently... 🙁
