Just went to the games store near my house and saw it on the racks...finally! Haven't installed it on my PC though. There was a release delay here (in India) due to the recent terror attacks in Mumbai. Picked the game up for Rs. 499 which comes to around $11. Really cheap compared to the last GTA games when they were released here. :)

Looking forward to playing GTA again...played Vice City a really long time ago!

Bad boy... Have fun with misery. You would have to OC that E7200 to 6GHz to make it run decently.

Nope, I'll be playing it on my other newer rig. That 9500GT is not good enough either.

wow

$40 is too much for me but I'd gladly pay $11.

I know its cheaper for obvious reasons, but damn. :(

This is the strange part really. When GTA Vice City and San Andreas were released here they were priced at about $62!

Your "other" rig isn't even listed, unless you mean the Pentium 4... In which case, good luck getting 1FPS.

It runs crappy on my rig, but I have the "no limits" tweak and hitting 1 gb of Vram, which my card doesn't have. :p So the slowdowns are probably normal. I don't even want to think how will this game run on a 9500GT or 7300GT. You might be lucky at 800X600 on the lowest settings, but that just takes away the pleasure and you'll probably be better reading a book then playing the game like that.

i keep getting out of video memory errors. i read there are issues with ATI cards that cause this though.

sucks that with 2x 1 GB cards i would have this problem. i even dropped my settings a little bit to try to fix this but it didn't help.

I just Googled and read about this problem with GTA IV. Looks like there's no way to solve this 'out of video memory' error and quite a few people have had such an error in spite of having high-end computers! Just read this:

With your system, I'd be sad if it didn't run good.

Holy Smokes !!!

I just installed GTA 4 last night. Worst installation experience of my life - must have took 4-5 hours with problems setting up a "LIVE" account.
It's seems to play well though. I walk like a "special" person, otherwise it plays smooth. Most vivid graphics I've EVER seen in a game including Crysis and Far Cry 2.
Time to play some more :)

Game runs like shit, literally. I spent the first few hours of my playtime trying to get it to run smoothly, to no avail. On 16x10 on High textures, highest renderer and everything else down low I get around 17-25 FPS. To add insult to injury sometimes it dips into single digits. The game is horribly unoptimized. From the tests I've seen it's impossible to run it smoothly at 16x10 even with a QX9770@3,6Ghz. So far this is the only game that warrants buying a quad as the gains from multiple cores are huge. I considered upgrading, but spending that much money to play one game seems foolish.

If you look around the GTA forums there is a ton of threads discussing tweaks and such, all of it is useless, so is the ingame benchmark. It's very optimistic, on the above settings I averaged 42 FPS. Wish it were true.

To sum up: great game albeit a piss-poor port.

OC your CPU

I'm mostly playing in the 25-35 FPS range (Vsync on) with an E8500 @ 4.2GHz & 4870 512

GTA 4 settings are

Medium Textures
Highest Render
100 Detail Distance
30 View Distance
30 Vehicle Density
1 Shadow Density

Have the GTA 4 record off and using the no Securom GTA 4 launcher

Medium textures? Never! :D

I've been meaning to OC it, however I just can't get around to doing it.

Also, is it just me or is there some cheesy depth-of-field filter in the cutscenes which blurs things horribly?

I can't believe I'm too lazy to have picked this up yet, I've been looking forward to it forever.
