Just bought ASUS P4P800. What is the best price/performance memory?

Hi Gang,

I just bought this board. I am purchasing a P4 2.4C/800 to go with it. I plan on overclocking when the sytem is done. But I am having
a heck of a time choosing the right memory for the job. I dont want to break the bank on the memory, and I know that I need PC3200/DDR 400
to utilize the 800 operation on the mainboard. And lastly I would definately consider Samsung memory over all others if possible.

So to summarize, I want the best memory for the money. DDR 400 or better. I plan to run them in Dual Channel mode.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I run HyperX 3500, which is cheap for LL 3500 memory. I currently run a 280FSB (3.38GHz, 448MHz memory) stable to Prime95 (2 instances and 1 instance running 3dMark03) at 2-3-3-7.

I currently have 2-512mb Corsair XMS3200LL-PLT memory. While it is good, I would probably get the Kingston HyperX PC3500 memory if I had to do again.

Yes, I was looking at the hyper X Kingston 512.. But really expensive at Best Buy.
I will have to scour the web.. Thanks for you help guys.

At Newegg last week, they had Corsair XMS 512dimms of PC3200 cas2 for $118, now its like $128

I think the Crucial is still hovering around $100ish

You don't have to use pc3200, I use Samsung pc2700 and the 3:2 ratio at 280FSB. Thought I'd mention this just in case you are on a tight budget. I paid about $10 each for my 256mb sticks, they are PNY packaged Samsung pc2700, acquired during sales at Best Buy and Staples.

But if you have the money pc3200 is marginally faster in benchmarks. My Sandra mem scores are 5329/5399 at 280fsb.

Not really, they have had 2 rebate deals on it recently. $50 for each 256mb after rebate.

Wow!! 50.00 for 256!!
I will have to monitor the best buy site for new sales.
Does Kingston Hyper X use Samsung mem chips? Just curious. I have read that samsung is the most
stable when overclocked over other mem makers.

Any experience running Kingston hyperx KHX3500/512 x 4 on a P4P800? Also with x 2, what type of overclocking speed are there and can you be in turbo mode?

I run 2X256MB, but no turbo for me. Well, it runs turbo but no MAM, or else MAM but not turbo. I stick with MAM because it benches better and gives more overhead. My understanding is that with the 1.009 BIOS you can run timings other than 2-2-2-5, but I'm too invested in a 5:4 memory ratio to change so I haven't tried. Be careful buying HyperX at BB. I've heard some stories that concern me, but I don't know how true they are. 3 different people had issues that posted something about not being able to o/c past 400DDR in 2 diff threads, but I question the authority.

EDIT: I'm curious about 4X256MB myself.

A quick question about the HyperX series. I understand that Corsair's require 2.75 voltage...what about the HyperX? Is it power hungry too?
