So, originally, I went to Sears and bought the Kenmore 3 Burner + side burner for $199.99. When I go to pick it up 2 days later (they offer free assembly), I get it out to the truck and notice the grill cover has a crack that goes straight through it, plus various other scratches and marks. I take it down off the truck and bring it back inside, telling them this is unacceptable and I want a new grill. They tell me it's going to be another two days, and I'd have to come back and pick it up. Well, since it wasn't my truck (my friend was helping me out), I asked if they could deliver it, they say they can't waive the delivery fee ($35.00). That really ticks me off, so I just get a refund, and off to Lowes we go.

Get to Lowes, and decide on this Char-Broil stainless steel with brass burners grill for $299.00. Get it home, lug it up to my 2nd floor condo (this b!tch was heavy), hook everything up, and this P.O.S. doesn't start. Change the battery in the electronic ignition, try to match light it, and make sure the tank is full. Nothing, dead as a doornail. So we lug it down, load it up, and return it to Lowes.

So, I tell them I want the Weber Genesis Silver A. Of course they don't have any built. So, off to Home Depot, across the street. They have plenty ready and waiting. Spend the $399.00, get it home, and hook the tank up and install the cooking grates. This baby fires right up, but by this time I'm too exhausted to cook anything.

Bottom line, don't go cheap. Spend a little more for quality. I learned my lesson. From all the reviews I read, Webers, as long as you take care of them, will last you for decades. Can't wait to throw some steaks on this baby tonight.

Not sure on the charbroil. I bought one pre-assembled at Lowes on clearance, has brass burners and cast-iron grates. Anyway I had to change the battery and it took a few to get started the very first time. It's never been a problem since. I wanted a Weber but already had a grill I was replacing mostly because it looked bad. So, I was on a budget.

Anyway, can't go wrong with Weber. Maybe next time around I'll spend the $$$. Hopefully that won't be for another 5+yrs. :p

Nice grill.

Though up uptil recently Weber wasn't know for their prevalence in the propane gas grill arena. But are definatly doing well at it.

Yeah, I was going against the advice of most of my Weber grill owner friends and was trying to save a few bucks, but in the end, I like the size of this grill better (limited balcony restraints), even though I had to spend $200 more than originally planned. Live and learn.

Some things you don't go cheap on. A grill is one of those things.

In terms of our grill, i think i have to clean some of it out. We just moved into a new home, and I'm not if its more windy than our last home, but some of the food is taking longer to cook. So i might have to clean the inside of the grill were the burners are to make sure everything is tip top.

It's a bummer that CharBroil didn't work. I like that one a lot more than the Genesis (even tho the Weber is so highly rated).

I have a $20 Weber charcoal grill. It's worked perfectly for the past 3 years. Go Weber!

Just put it together yourself and save the 2 days. I got a Kenmore Grill for like $150 on sale a few years back, set it up in about 30 minutes as guests were arriving for our cook-out, and the thing has been awesome ever since. I absolutely love it and don't understand why people spend many hundreds of dollars for a grill.

I'd guess that the charbroil didn't light because you had the propane tank improperly connected - maybe you tightened the threads wrong (it's happened to me) Regardless, if it didn't light and you couldn't figure it out and correct the problem within 5 minutes, you are seriously not mechanically inclinced. I'm especially inclined to believe you simply misalligned the threads when connecting the tank (or forgot to turn the tank on!) since you couldn't even match light it. Worst case, if it wouldn't match light is the venturi isn't opened or opened too far. 20 seconds to take care of that. Of course, like the typical consumer, you probably neglected to open the booklet that comes with it and go to the "troubleshooting section." Instead, return it to the store is perceived as easier than (gasp!) skimming through 1 or 2 pages in a booklet. Regardless, it worked out better for you, since Weber seems to be a better brand. Life expectancy of a charbroil << life expectancy of a weber.

Your assumptions couldn't be more wrong. The threads on the tank were properly aligned, troubleshooted via the owners manual and online, where I saw the rave reviews of the Weber's, which made up my mind to get rid of the monster Char-Broil and get the more compact and higher rated Weber.
This forum was a huge help in my decision as well.

You mean to tell me that you had gas coming out, but couldn't even light it with a match?? But, then you say nothing, dead as a nail? Was there gas coming out or not? If there wasn't, why would you bother with the match? If there was, then you should have been able to get it lit; adjusting the venturi would probably have been all that was necessary.

I had Kenmore grills for years and it seemed like I had to buy $30-$50 worth of parts every year (burner, ignitor, etc.) and I'm sure other comparably priced grills would have needed the same. Finally got the same Weber you have and in five years it hasn't needed a thing. The last thing I wanted to do was spend $300 on a grill but in the long run I think it was the right thing.

lessoned learned.

don't ever, ever skimp on the grill. Its an applicance. Would you trust a 200 dollar stove?

-edit- although ever the cheapest of grill should light with ease. Its more about the heat, quality of grills and flame guard more than anything.
