Looks nice!

Buying a plasma and NOT getting HD is beyond me but hey, whatever floats your boat!

I had both the EDTV and the HDTV of the same make and size right next to each other with an HD signal going to both.....honestly, I coudn't tell the difference so I opted to save the extra $1100 and wait a few years until I buy a bigger TV.

What were you playing on both TV when you compared the two? If you can watching local broadcast channel, of course there will not be a difference

I also decided that for the 12 channels that broadcast in HD.....HD can wait for now.

The only HD source I have now is my computer, and I really don't use that often.

My EDTV looks great for DVDs and I'm very happy with it.

Once HD is widespread and HD projectors are in the $1000 range I'll upgrade :)

You're not using the speakers on the thing though, are you? ;)

Are you sure? HD and ED are so easy to tell apart from. Some HD channels acutally broadcast EDTV material, along with HDTV programs.

You should definately notice it, especially side by side, its like the quality difference going from black and white to color TV.

it's possible that it wasn't HD content OR he was watching 480P HD on both tvs which AGIAN won't be noticeable. I was in a store with multiple TVs and I had to configure the TV so that it would be in 1080i mode instead of the 480P mode which it was in. It was a world of a difference and looked amazing, I doubt the OP checked carefully to make sure that 1. The source was truely outputting HD content and not 480P content and also that the TV was running in HD mode....

Quite possibly. But again, for the 12 channels that broadcast and the $1100 difference I will wait until I get a new TV when I move out of my condo and into a house. By then HD I'm sure will be broadcast on several more channels.

My question to you is this, will a HD signal make a difference on this TV as opposed to a regular TV quality wise?

If you're asking it an HD signal will look better on a good EDTV vs an SDTV, then yep, it should.

I love how the speakers on the tv aren't good enough but the screen is. Plus you have 12 hd channels? 12 channels is A LOT of content if your waiting for all cable channels to go hd I think you might be waiting a long time.

Yes, HDTV will look better on your EDTV, but it won't look like HDTV. The store you were clearly wasn't showing HD content when you were there. If you have any intent on watching HD, take the set back. You have been warned. I have 2 friends who also had to have plasma, but didn't pony up for HD. They both regret their purchases now.

I plan on getting the HD version (HPR4272) on boxing day. Hopefully it will be in the $2500CDN range.
