Hey guys, I just purchased an HP a6040n computer, and I was wondering if the 8800GT will fit.

I opened up the computer, and saw that about half an inch away from the PCI-E slot, there was a heat sink looking thing there. I believe it's the Integrated Graphics heatsink but i'm not sure.

But anyways, when installing the GT, does the bulk of the card face up or down? If it faces up towards the ceiling, and the flatside faces the bottom then I don't think I have to worry. But if it faces down then I'm going to have a problem.

So what do you guys think?

Also as a side question, how loud is the 8800GT?

Thanks in advance guys

The graphics card fan has always faced the bottom of the case in every computer I've used. It sounds like you may be out of luck here.

You could post pics just so we can see.

Thanks for the input guys, keep em coming! i'll try to post pictures so you guys can get a better picture.

Also is the 8800GT loud under idle? I don't mind if it's a beast under load, but when I'm not doing anything I would really prefer it to be very quiet.

That's a weird mobo setting with the slots on top, unless you took the pictures upside down for whatever reason...proprietary cookie-cutter mobos FTL, I once had a Dell desktop that had no AGP slot because they had to save a few cents. I even saw the outline where the AGP slot could've been, but they didn't even bother putting one in!

The 8800GT is pretty quiet under idle, so no worries there.

Fan side of PCIe Graphics card would point away from 945 heatsink.

Edit: Look at any pictures of the graphics cards (probably some at the top of this page) and mentally insert them into your slot

arg! this is so frustrating. can i just go to best buy and buy one, and if it doesn't work return it? I'm not exactly familiar with their return policys.

Still hoping someone can tell me if it'll fit or not.

I think it's either 9 or 9.5 inches in length, so take out a ruler and do your best to estimate where the end of the card would end up in your case.

It's not the length i'm worried about, it's the width. If you click on the pictures I linked, there is a silver heatsink right below my PCI slot so I'm wondering if the card will still fit.
