Just purchased this monitor.

Here is a pic in the dark:

Is this much bleeding normal? I'm thinking about sending it back...

EDIT:

here is a shot of my ancient Dell 2707 for comparison:

First one is terrible and the second one is not so great either. I would return it.

Why not go Dell again? They make really great displays, unless you are wanting one with a high refresh speed.

IPS glow? For $650, whatever you call it, I would return the monitor in the top photo. I've got a $200 IPS monitor that doesn't "glow" anything like that. Looks more like severe backlight bleeding.

backlight hemorrhage can vary hugely on different screens of the same model and it looks like you rolled snake eyes. Obviously you aren't happy with it so I'd try and exchange for different one, either different model/brand or just a different one of the same model.

On the bright side though I have seen worse... My friend got one where even on a bright background the bleed was terrible.

if you don't mind me asking,

a monitor with no bleed, showing a totally black image, should emit no light? is that what you mean by no bleed?

i've never seen a monitor like that.

guys, is IPS glow a misnomer such that the same glow is a problem with MVA panels as well? The Acer is MVA.

Here is a pic head on, about 5 feet away:

I mean, that looks like ass, but it's always hard to tell with pics of screens. I mean if it looks anything like the pick, then yeah, that's terrible.

LCD's just suck nads though, that's all there is to it.

I have a Dell U2412M IPS and it is nowhere near as bad as the pictures of the complained about displays here show.

I'm generally happy with it however, for gaming, specifically those featuring dark, moody locations eg. Metro: Last Light, whether the lighter four edge corners of the screen are caused either by backlight bleed or IPS glow, I would much prefer it wasn't there.

With a doubt, for this type of use, I would give up the claimed more accurate and vibrant colour reproduction advantages of IPS for any other type of display which can produce a good, even black level across the whole screen.

Looks like a particularly bad case of clouding.

I wouldn't advise it. I was seriously considering that model myself last night, until I read about the flicker bug. There seems to be a significant subset of units with this defect, including models from other brands that use the same panel. Regardless of whether or not BenQ or the panel manufacturer have acknowledged the issue (I don't think anyone has), it's way too soon for the defective units to have left circulation.

Would you happen to have a link for additional info on the flicker with the benQ? I did a good a amount of research into that monitor as I was considering it for my next purchase. I don't recall running into anything about a flicker issue.
