Just wanted to "officially" say hi now.

Just bought a MBP 15/2.4/2X1GB/200-5400/256VRAM-USA and a 500 GIG Time Capsule, plus the free printer!

I'm so excited, glad to be able to post in the Apple forums with cred now!!!!

:)

Congrats!

I'm right there with you. Waiting... still showing "not shipped yet." I hope it ships tomorrow so that I can get it early next week. This will be my first Mac and first laptop.

Really, any DDR2 667 SODIMM from a reputable vendor (tigerdirect, newegg, etc...) will do the trick. I run Corsair in my MacBook, but other have good luck with Crucial, Kingston, Transcent, PNY, PQI, Geil, <insert manufacturer here>

In OS X, is there a need for 4GB of RAM? I have 2GB in my blackbook, would I have a better experience with 4GB?

any reviews of the time capsule?

my wife has last year's MBP and my new dell d630 with 802.11n should show up next week.

i would love to upgrade my home wireless setup to 802.11n with an inbuilt NAS box.
the only question is, how easy will be dumping data on the capsule using my dell (win xp) and my bittorrent desktop (win xp).
will it show up as a network drive or does it support uPnP?

need some real world reviews....

It would depend on what you do of course but I would think most would see little difference between 2GB and 4GB. That being said, I just bought 4GB for my BlackBook from OWC (macsales.com) because I plan on using VMware with XP/VISTA. Plus, it was less than $100.

I agree, a review of time capsule would be helpful. i'm really looking at the 1TB version, but holding off on pulling the trigger till I hear a little more from it.

Well, I run 1GB in my MacBook and never really have felt that limited by it. On the other hand, 2GB would make my life happier :)

4GB though? I can't ever see myself using all of that.

When I get the time capsule I'll let you guys know how it is! It says it ships Mar 3 but I doubt that, it looks like they still arent ready to ship yet.

@gordita
Time Capsule comes with a CD ROM that has some software on it you install on Windows...

When you install that you can access the NAS, and also the USB port for extra hard drives, printers, etc.

So yeah it would work with Win XP if you installed the software. My friends wondered why I got it but I figured getting a NAS / Wireless N router that is seamlessly built is better then buying a WIreless - N and NAS seperatley. Plus with the money I saved buying the base model MBP through Apple Developer Network it seemed foolish not too.

God now I just want it all to ship! My MBP says it was "picked up after Fed Ex cutoff" whatever that means.. In Shanghai, CN.

Has anyone's shipped yet? I ordered mine on Thursday but it still is sitting in Shanghai. It says I missed the Fed Ex cut off time on the Fed Ex site. Does that mean it will sit in China all weekend? :/

Heck, a plane ticket to Shagnahi round trip is only about 700 on China East. Its worth that to have the new MBP in my hands! j/k j/k

gizmodo has an initial viewpoint.

I'm waiting to see if they update the Airport extreme w/ the Time Capsule stuff, so I can use an external HDD on it. The pricing on TC is a bit too much for me to swallow, and I already have external drives I can use :)

Mine is just now showing "prepared for shipment." I ordered it @ 3 P.M. EST on Tuesday.

I bet that Apple underestimated the sheer number of people that were waiting for Penryns. On macrumors alone there were nearly 400 people waiting for Penryns, and that was just for the MBP.

I put 4GB of DDR2-800 from OCZ in my MBP. Works great and Windows recognizes 3GB. Cost like $80 from newegg.
