LS models have more features than a GS model.

No, the Mystique is the Mercury version of the Ford Contour. The Mercury version of the Escort is the Tracer.

My mom has had two Contours, and they are nice for the most part. A V-6 Contour/Mystique is actually a lot of fun to drive. I cannot vouch for the 4-cylinder ones, though.

I see you're in the NYC area. Go to Chinatown and ask some agents. They can pull some strings and get it really low, but expect the prices to be in the thousands per year. The lowest prices I've seen are with Countrywide, Travelers (subsidary of Citicorp), and AIG.

Whether you'll get another one or not after you total it depends on if you have collision coverage on your insurance plan or not. Collision coverage pays for your car if it gets damaged/totalled at your fault. I don't know how much it affects your premium, but I'm sure it makes a considerable difference. I wouldn't get it if your car isn't worth much.
