Just bought a car stereo...

And now I'm kicking myself in the ass. I figured I was single again, so it was time to start acting like a immature annoying SOB so all the girls would look at me as I drove by

😉. I bought a KDC-MP919 head unit thinking that it could play WMA's, but it can't. It looks like I'll be ripping all of my CD's again 😱. Oh well...

Anyway I got that Kenwood, then I got a JBL BP600.1 600 Watt Subwoofer Amp running 600 watts peak/300 watts RMS @ 2ohms, a JBL P1220D 12" DVC subwoofer wired in a 2 ohm load and a QLogic QLH-1.2512SX Sealed Box to house it. I wired the amp with Monster Cable 4G power leads, then used Monster's Micro XLN RCA cables to connect them to the deck. Sounds sweet, can't wait to get home and play with it some more.

Not that anybody cares, but I went home and tried it out. I found out that I wired the sub wrong (in series instead of in parallel) so it was running at 8 ohms :disgust: nothing like running a sealed sub at 80 watts. So I rewired it and it friggen rocks now. Now all I have to do is make the install look good.

Really nice head unit, heard those were great. The JBL amp's are nice too.

yeah, I know the sub isn't the greatest, but it sounds pretty good. When I get an extra couple hundred $$$, I'm planning on buying a Infinity Perftect 12, but that'll have to wait. Seriously though, I've never had a system sound so clean at the highest volume, there is virtually no sound distortion. That head unit has 4.5v pre-amp, and really helps to clean the sound up. I've never had a D-class sub amp before, and I am very impressed with it so far.

The component mids and tweets are RockfordFosgates, I forgot to mention that.

Nice setup....The JBL amp may be one minor concern. One of my amps. is a 360 Watt 4 channel JBL, and sometime is cuts out when played at high volume for a long period of time....everything else seems good....Rockford Fosgate makes good equipment....My punch amp. for my Subs. has never had any problems.

Before you set your mind on the Infinity Perfect.. give IDQ's subs a try. It doesn't have the deepest bass, but it is sooo tight. That's what you are going for anyway.. a clean sounding system.

Nice head unit... I always love Kenwood stuff...

Just got the KDC-319 Kenwood CD deck this past weekend myself too, loving it! 🙂

Cool... I actually have the MP919 sitting right here waiting to go into my explorer. Also bought a JL Audio Stealth box (has a 10W1 in it). My amp is the Sony 405EQX, which is only 40W RMS x 4 and 100W RMS for the sub, but that will have to do for now because that stealth box was $550 (ouch). I was looking for a completely stealth install though (I like my cargo room). 10" will be enough for me anyway, seeing as the stock "sub" that was there before was a factory 6.5" POS that blew out six months ago (it sucked balls anyway).

Ah it will be nice to have bass again. All going well it's being installed Friday.

Hey, have you tried VBR (specifically LAME encoded) mp3s on it yet? I have read a lot about that HU (sucks that it doesn't read ID3 v2 tags but I'll deal with it), but can't find any info on whether or not it chokes on VBR.

I just wish it wasn't silver... it's going to look sort of stupid because my dash is black/tan, but oh well... the 919 had all the features I was looking for. Plus, it will look cool at night. Not quite as nice as the Pioneers with their organic EL display, but Pioneers take 5-6 seconds to queue up every mp3 versus Kenwood which is the fastest compared to any other make.

Enjoy it! And take pics if you get a chance...

Total setup was about $1000. I did all of the install, still working on making an amp mount and display. Thinking about getting some blue cold cathodes for the display too. But I don't know.I was really hoping that JL made a stealth box for my XTerra, but they don't, and when I emailed the R&D department to see if they had plans, the totally blew me off and told me that there is no demand for them (funny thing is that I know of at least 100 people willing to buy one right now :confused😉. But the QLogic box that I got isn't that large (1.25 cu.ft.) and fits very well in my cargo area.

As far as the color of the deck being silver. It's not so bad. I got the titanium style on my dash board. I'm thinking I'm gonna get the option carbon-fiber kit for it though. That'll look sweet as hell.
