For all the CRT nuts out there I'd just like to inform you they have a the 22" Dell P1230 Diamondtron SuperBright going for $269, shipped, thanks to the free shipping. I just ordered, and I have my fingers crossed it arrives without any problems, although from everything I've read Azatek.com seems reputable enough. I'll be sure to let everyone know how the monitor works out.

hmm, this appears to be different from the HP/Compaq P1230, which is itself a rebadge. I think this is actually a Mitsubishi 2060. It's a good price at any rate, even though it's a refurb.

What kind of issues do refurbs usually have? At least azatek says it covers the shipping if its defective or DOA.

Like xtknight said, bad geometry/focus, and also minor physical blemishes. It depends on your luck.

There are still good refurb/used units out there, and these days it's at least no more risky than getting a brand new one. I don't think this has the superbright capability though, as it looks to be a 2060 in disguise.

Hrm well even tho there might be good refurbs out there it seems most arent in ideal condition image quality wise, for example a user on another forum recently bought a 24" FW900 refurb from Azatek (HP brand) and although it was rated "Grade A" condition he says it has horrible convergence issues that cant be fixed through the OSD and overall unfocused,This seems to be a common complaint with Refurbs. I tried telling him beforhand he should go with a used FW900 from the seller I bought from off Ebay but he didnt listen  my FW900 is 3.5 years old but it still has excellent geometry ,convergence, a very crisp picture and is not refurbished.

I'm not sure what you mean, Sonic Ice, but if it's really a 2060 in disguise then it still uses the same Diamondtron tube. I've read conflicting specs all over the place regarding its maximum resolution and refresh rate, but the Dell specifications PDF says it can reach 2044x1538 @ 75Hz, although they "officially" recommend 1600x1200 @ 85Hz.

oh 2060 in disguise, thats what i wanted to know. i wasn't sure how to word my question.
heres the specs on it if u didn't see it already. it has a maximum 130kHz horizontal scan rate. so you can calculate 1600x1200 at a maximum of 102Hz.

horizontal scan rate / horizontal lines *.95 = refresh rate at that resolution.

for instance 130,000 / 1024 *.95 = 120
so this monitor can do 1280x1024 @ 120Hz

The 130khz rating is actually why I think it's a 2060 (and the fact that Azatek says it has a Diamondtron NF tube). It should be able to do 2048x1536 at 75hz.

I've personally used over 5 high end CRT refurbs, down to a FW900 24" widescreen along with brand new ones.
The geometry is ok, but the focus is the main issue. The focus goes hand in hand, in a direct relationship with the brightness/contrast settings used. The higher the brightness/contrast, the more blurry things will get. So it all basically means that it's a dimmer monitor.
The other major issue refurbs have are convergence. This is the ability for monitors to align all three of the colors, RGB. On most refurbs, it's near impossible to get all the colors to line up on the complete screen, thus you'll get many places where there are red/blue fringing on the edge.

If the P1230 is a mitsubishi 2060 in disguise, what is the P1130 in sony terms? also what is a NEC FE1250+ in mitsubishi terms?

P1130 is a G520 in sony terms.
Not sure about the 1250+, it may not have a mitsubishi equivalent.
