Hey smittybg, where did you get your card from? I ordered my Powercolor from bananapc yesterday for $180 but won't have it until next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will have the 256bit memory, too. Thanks!

I talked to power color and they told me it had the 256 bit memeory. its GPu clock is 380 , what is the 9800 pro's GPU.

If it looks like this you may be successful. Notice how the memory is in an L shaped config around the chip and it looks identical to the 9700 PCB. On the other hand if it looks like this with linear memory modules it does'nt have the 256 bit modules... Good luck.

i had a powercolor 9800se, 3dmark03 score was 3500, was unable to softmod it, assume i got a card with the extra 4 pipelines being defective......, not very happy with the performance, took it back and got myself a 9500np, 3dmark03 score was 2800, softmodded it successfully to a 9700, now scoring 4200.

keep in mind that if you are able to softmod it you might still be plagued with artifacts..., good luck!!

LOL...this whole time i had no idea what people were talking about when they mentioned L shaped memory. the fact is, i've never seen pictures of ATI cards w/ memory chips that didnt curve around the GPU. i've been thinking this whole time, "those chips look like squares, not L's..."

I just received the PowerColor 9800SE from bananapc.com and it was NOT the one they had on their website when the order was placed. They changed the description on their website this week and unfortunately the card I received matches the new description - 250MHz on the RAM. :( The good news is I called them to explain the situation and they are being very cool about it - 100% refund and paying for return shipping. Excellent customer service! I'll shop with them again just for that. :) FYI - the RAM on it is not L-shaped and it looks like it has Hynix 4ns chips.

If what Anand reports about the 9600XT is true (that it will outperform the 9700 Pro), I'll be picking one of those up as soon as they're released. For $199 including HL2, that's a steal if the performance matches expectations.

That sucks. I bought the same card you did and i havent gotten mine yet. I'll see if i get the same thing you did. the problem is powercolor doesnt make a card like the one you described so it can't be a powercolor card unless some manufacturer modded it. I hate resellers that do not know what the heck there selling.

They better hope mine's not wrong too. or they be giving me more than my money back.

sounds like a plan to me =)

Hey smitty, it's definitely not going to be the one we hoped for. I talked to Jerry in customer service and they were originally displaying the specs that PowerColor emailed to them, which of course we now know are completely wrong. They received a few complaints and verified the correct specs with PowerColor - that's why they changed the listing on the website. I had a feeling yesterday that I was going to receive what is now listed on the website, so I grabbed a refurb 9800np from Newegg for $186. I love it when intuition pays off! :)
