They are there. Trying searching the FS/FT forum with keywords.

I just tried '9600'
$44 shipped

I would probably go with a 9800. 9800 Pro used are less than that linked 9600XT and much faster.

BuckMaster: The majority say a 9800 Pro to 6600GT isnt enough of an upgrade to be worth it, and the 9700 Pro is only 10-15% slower (I'm guessing here) than a 9800 P. So I would say no, if you're gonna get a new AGP card I'd get a X800XL or 6800GS range.

I sprung for the 6600GT today for ~$120 AR. I figured for the same price, the 6600GT had a bit more performance than the 9800Pro... then again, I'll probably never know the difference!

Correction, the ATi Radeon 9600 SE is just the same 4 pixel pipelines as the original Radeon 9600, just in a 64 bit bus. :)

If Google Earth is the extent of your 3D needs, a 6200 will fit the bill very nicely (probably overpowered given that intel integrated graphic run GE just fine).

Can't help with the LCD question.

I just received the eVGA 6600GT and noticed on the outside of the pkg that it requires a min 350w power supply. My power supply is only 300w. It also specifies AGP 2.0 or higher. My Asus P4S533 mobo does not specify what level the AGP is... only that it's 4x.

Am I hosed on either of the above issues?

Regarding AGP2.0., you're fine there. The card is 4x/8x either way. As for the 350W - they put that there because there are a lot of el-cheapo power supply that pad their ratings. People have gotten more powerful cards working perfectly stable on Shuttle XPC's, so you probably are fine.

This also assume you don't have 3 hard drives in your system.

Thanks, pukemon.

My PS is older, but was used originally with an AMD 1 Gig Tbird processor... which I understand was somewhat finicky about PS.

Is the only problem with underspec PS the fact that the card may not be stable? Is there any danger of physical damage or anything?

I suppose I could get a new PS. They're not that expensive. But if there's no danger, I'll try it with the existing PS and see how it runs.

And then if I get a new PS, I might want to get a new case since the old one doesn't have any front USB or firewire ports... in which case it may be time to check into a new mobo/processor.... ahhh... it never ends, does it? ;-)

(I already have a new LCD monitor coming to replace my 19" CRT that died).

You're probably not going to see any problems unless you DO play some 3d games or use 3d apps. Then it'll draw more power, and your PSU might not be able to handle it.

When you get a chance, crack open your case and take a look at the PSU. There should be a sticker on it with specifications. Give us the +12v amperage (number followed by the letter "a")

Naturally, half the sticker is hidden behind part of the case. From what I can see, the model number is PP-303x/300w and best I can tell, the number near the +12v is 10A.

Does that sound about right? I think it's an Antec PS, but without taking it out, I won't be able to see the full sticker.

Thus far the 6600GT is running great and I can't hear the fan over the CPU fan. I installed the latest Nvidia drivers (81.98).

Edit: I found this online:
