Just a thought on trojans...

Im sure it is possible, but unlikely. What if Microsoft, or any 3j337 hax0r group decided to release an new version of a Microsoft OS with one addition (or many). They could easily trojan a known service that must run, and release it to plenty of people who have justified their stealing software enough to believe they are doing The Right Thing [TM]. This trojan could range from funny, like Microsoft releasing it and the trojan announces to the world that the user is a theif and stole the software, or to the devilish, like some script kiddiot trojaning an important service to give himself and his 13yo cohorts access to the machine or use it as a zombie DDoS machine.

Just thought this would be hilarious to hear about. What do you all think of the idea?

i am a 13 yr old hacker. thanx 4 for suggestion! j/k !
ps: yes, there are bootleg wxp version 2600 going around which have been called
"fake" or "corrupt" but in what way?

I laugh at anybody stupid enough to install that W@rez crap. Its possible and already been done. Its hard to detect also with all this spyware intergrated into every program now.

Do you have a problem with this very legitimate thought?

Anyways to make it more interresting, if MS added functionality to this trojan by recording every site, username, and password that you have writable privledges to and uploads it to each of these servers while you sleep. This would allow this version of the software to propogate itself much faster.

Interesting..

Just yesterday I had to extend a demo of an ftp program because it said it was expired.. hell I never even used it before. (I love Opera.. it takes 30 days of USE, not 30 days generic). So then in the middle of an upload it kicked me off, said I got a key illegally, and I'd be in trouble but if I registered it they'd look past that.

My buttocks. I downloaded a different one that worked better anyway. usually I use free software so I don't care about demos, but I like their little scare tactic to try to get you to buy it. Hell if they took the "You stole our software, people worked hard on it and need to make a living blah blah" approach I might have felt bad, but threatening me isn't the way to make me like your company.

I could see MS making a way to do something similar, recording every IP of everyone they figure somehow has an illegal copy.

And when MS can control who or who isn't using a purely legit copy, what's to stop them from saying "Ok, this product is no longer supported and valid, you must now sign up with our .net OS program.."

Ok, and what happens when Windows xyz is out and MS says they dont want to deal with Windows XP WPA anymore? Did you waste $INSANEDOLLARAMOUNTHERE on an OS you can only use for 2-4 years? And if you think 2-4 years is a long time to be using an operating system, there are people still using win95 (not to mention win3.11).
