Just a small rant - Stop pairing hi-end headphones to DAPs.

It doesn't sound good. Go find a real, stand-alone devoted source with a nice amp and do some justice to those hi-fi headphones.

Well thats a fine rant you have there sir, but realistically, the line between "not enough headphone" and "too much headphone" is far too blurry for the general public, and usually even for us tech-savvy folk. I know how you feel, but you gotta just tell yourself, "It's their money, it's their money..." we can't educate everyone. 🙁

Why in the hell do you care what we do?

I have some nice Sony studio circumaural headphones that I use for my MP3 player, Blackberry, or netbook. I like the sound they provide compared to earbuds and I take them to school quite often as they do limit outside noise. They are not noise canceling, but due to their circumaural nature they do limit outside noises.

Yeah well can I still use my bass boost with all that crap hooked up?

This guy knows me!

Why should you tell me what to do with my own money? If you want to tell me which headphones to use, buy my headphones for me.

very short sighted rant. the headphones aren't married to a single device. the best device for that person to use at any time will change depend on their cirumstance. should they have a pair of headphones for their ipod and a separate pair for their a"shin-approved" device?

Screw off buddy. Why can't I use nice headphones on the go? 320kbps MP4's with a nice mp3 player are good enough for me.

Get off the high horse. I am plugging my hd650 into my notebook now just to piss you off.

I have a pair of hd580s. When I listened to them through my DAP (before I got a headphone amp), it was sad to hear them physically hit a wall because they have such a high impedance. Something like the Grado SR-60s don't have to have an amp to sound good though because they have a low impedance.

I use Sony MDR-V150's with my computer's onboard headphone out and listen to MP3's, some as low as 160kbs.

Pure aural euphoria.

Just because the headphones are good enough to reveal source limitations doesn't mean they don't still sound better than crappy headphones on the same source. Your fidelity will always be limited by something.

Do you expect everyone to buy a Marantz CD transport that outputs via optical to a $1000 DAC and then a Woo Audio 2 to a balanced HD800 with a $600 silver cable? Please. It's music. If you enjoy it, done. If you don't, get rid of it.
