I read all these huge flamefest threads and names crop up time after time...Rollo, Ronin, ronn, Acanthus, Turtle 1...are just a few that i see time after time (not all by any chance, so don't think i'm singling you out intentionally, those are just the first to come to mind 😛) , yet i hardly ever see them helping people out in Video (at least not recently), and i wish they'd share their expertise around rather than wasting it....

Look at the first page of video and you'll see exactly what i mean, there are threads with honest problems sinking ever downwards with none or very few replies and no solution...and then these bloated flamefests that serve no useful purpose, help no one, yet have many replies, mainly from the group of people i'm talking about 😛

I'm tired and one of my threads is one of those sinking to oblivion 🙁

no doubt rollo is an admitted fanboy or bias or whatever you want to call him but at least he takes the time ( a significant amount too) to run to run benches of the hardware.

he's also taken the time to help me out in PM.

and i think i was right to take offense at the way you asked it, since i make an effort to help others when i feel qualified to do so...on a regular basis when i visit...

Then maybe you are not qualified to answer many of the problems? That is pretty subjective. On a side note, there are several questions that people post on these forums that I cannot answer, and looking at some of the responses people give, they don't have a clue either. A lot of these "help" posts are obscure and are extremely difficult if impossible to solve with a reply in their thread. Obviously, we can supply some generalized advice (Did you check your drives! Bios update! PSU! Reload Windows?) and that really doesn't help though.

Anyway, that is my take on it. Also, in addition to that, this forum isn't here for the sole purpose of helping, though that is part of it. After a long day at work, troubleshooting and fixing PCs, Networks, Servers etc... I rarely want to join a thread that says "My Video card does not work!"... I am more interested in discussing and reading the upcoming technologies.

Everyone has their preference... For those who devote their time exclusively to helping others on their forums, that is great. I wish nothing but the best for them.

The list you have with the exception of Turtle1, I've seen them all be positive contributors. Turtle1 has been here only a short time, and may have raised some provoking responses, but seems OK to me.

Honestly, a little moderation on some of these threads that go on and on would go a long ways.
 
Perhaps the reason hardly anyone has helped you with your "issue" (learning nVidia's driver controls is hardly a difficult task and you can always use nHancer - www.nhancer.com instead) is because your anti-nVidia stance is obvious.

I think you should sell the 6600 and get another ATi card, most nVidia users would not want you to "suffer" with a card you don't like and I'm sure nVidia isn't so desperate for sales/users that you will be missed there either.

I'm quite happy with my 6600GT after ironing out some nasty problems (thanks to people on here actually 😉) thankyou...but i'm perfectly entitled to prefer the CCC layout if i want...

i fail to see how i'm anti Nvidia when i had trouble with a card that is very loud, slower than it should be (driver problems again), and a whole settings page vanished on me...

I'm getting used to the noise (not an nvidia problem really...sparkles actually), and have fixed most of the other problems 😀

So now your standard has changed? Before it was essentially "no flaming" now it is "no flaming the majority of my time" the next logical step will be for you to say "Well, at least every post isn't a flame!" In which case, I respond by saying "Neither do they, with the names mentioned above".

 
Most people who buy something need to feel they made the right decision. When paying several hundred dollars for a luxury item that they don?t really need, having made the right choice becomes even more important. This becomes doubly important when the item is purchased more for bragging rights than real need, you absolutely must prove that whatever it is you have is better than what everyone else has. Thus, the fanboy is born.
The same thing happens with cars, long arguments over which is better, when everyone secretly knows that Ford is the best. 🙂

Most of it seemed to be discussion about whether using an analogy of someone who was gay and banging their father was below the belt, interspersed with nasty attacks on each other 😉
